Hey,

I am new to quads and I'd like to know more and be able to repair my BRUIN as much as I can.

I bought a cheap YAMAHA because I know there is parts on the market and they can be repaired.

I hope I will learn a lot of things in this journey.

Welcome along, this is a good site. I'm sure you will find it helpful.

Something to be aware of is that it's primarily an American site, and the models vary from country to country, so you need to make sure you are looking at the exact right model when reading the service manuals or ordering parts. This is particularly so with the electrical systems, carbs and body parts. Most of the mechanical parts are pretty standard.

The site has a good selection of service manuals but if it doesn't seem to have your model let us know and we can try to find one for the collection.

Thank you for the warm welcome.

I found a "supplementary service manual" but not the "service manual". Do you think it is possible to find this pdf or maybe I have not looked at the right place.

If you tell us what year it is I might be able to find the main manual.

Did you read what the supplement is to ? It's possibly a supplement to cover some particular model, or some later year.

The bike's model will start off as YFM350 then there will be a suffix of two or three letters. If you have the suffix let us know that as well.

Thank you for the answer.

The model is YFM350FAS 2WD it is a 2006 BRUIN.

The S on the end indicates it's a 2004 model. Are you sure that's the right suffix, and/or year ? It could also be BAS.. The B indicates 2WD,

Do you have a frame or engine number ?

You may be right about that designation, being as you are in Europe, the models do vary from place to place, but that  makes it all the more important to get the correct service manual.

Gw knows yamaha better than I do.. Perhaps he will have some insights.

If you look in the partzilla or babbits atv parts online it will show you all the models availiable with suffixes. If you browse through looking at various parts for various years you might be able to narrow it down to which exact model you have. Good parts to look at are body colours, carbs, cdi if you can get a number off it.. but just about anything can change.. handlebars even are sometimes higher or lower.

Have a look at the suffixes. B indicates 2WD and F is for 4WD. S is for 2004, T is for 2005 and V is for 2006.

FAS is a 4WD 2004, and BAS is 2WD 2004. A 2006 would be FAV or BAV

Good point Gw.

We really need the model designation too though, or an engine or frame number. The frame number will be on the lower left frame tube near the foot peg, and the model designation should hopefully be on a sticker on the top frame tube near the back of the tank I think they are.

I know the 4th through the 8th digit tell specifics, but i never could figure out how to break their code, so i just used one of the online vin # searches to find the specifics, but a better option. would be to call or contact yamaha it would be more accurate.

The mechanical parts and procedures are all pretty much the same through model runs as far as working on them goes, but you do need the model designation or to know exactly what you have for ordering parts. The carbs and electricals in particular are very model/market/year specific.

So you are sure it's a 2006 ? You figured that from the vin number ?

And are you in America ? They have Europe, Canadian or American and Oceania versions. And if it's American it's possible it will be Californian or general. All things to consider when ordering parts or looking at the carbs or electrics.

Heres my story. Kinda long. I guess I was a late bloomer when it comes to quads. I had never ridden a quad in my life. Rode Dirt Bikes as a kid growing up. Back in Oct of '06 I found a Mustang on craigslist. Took it for a test drive one morning before work. Fast car. 351 Cleveland. I had planned on meeting the guy again after work. For some strange reason thats still to this day beyond me, I stopped in Hillsboro MotoSports on the way home from work. I had 6 Grand on me. There was a left over '05 sitting by the front door. It was on sale for $4999. It was $5499 OTD. I didnt even look at anything else. I knew nothing about quads accept I thought it really looked coool and I had the money in my pocket to buy it. I was sitting on it when the salesman walked up and asked... "Can I help you?" Without hestitation I pulled 60 Ben Franklins outta my front pocket and said "I want this Quad. Load it up in my truck." It was just about dark by the time I drove away from the shop. BTW, I didnt bother to ask my ol lady if I could buy it. LOL. Anyway, I took it by the house and showed her. She was kinda stunned but not mad. We drove over to a friend of mines house and unloaded it. I took it to the field across the street from his house. HOLY CHIT!!!!! I was surprised by the power. I had it for about 2 weeks and took it to Sand Lake. I was there a few hours and rolled it on a banked turn at the top of the bowl right before you get to the one-ways. When it rolled, I flew off and landed on my belly. The quad came bouncing and landed on my back. For a month I couldnt even walk. I was scared of it. I considered trading it for a 250EX. Went back to the shop. The salesman said..."Dude!!! You dont want a 250EX!!! Trust me. Just get used to it" I still wasnt convinced. I put it on craigslist for $4000. Calls were coming in. I had a guy that wanted to come look at it that evening. I decided to take it for one last ride at Browns Camp before I sold it. I was still afraid of it. After about 5 minutes I started feeling comfortable on it again. I decided right then, I loved my Honda 450 and would learn how to ride it instead of selling it. That was late Nov of '06. Work was slow for a Painter in Oregon. My new job everyday? Going to Browns Camp and ridding my Quad. I bought my Girl Friend an '02 Blaster. I rode my 450 for 4-6 hours almost every single day for 3 months. And yes, I know my way around Browns Camp pretty well. LOL. In March I bought her an '06 TRX250EX (Thank God I didnt trade my 450 for one of those) LOL Since then, I have become totally addicted to quads. I love them. Couldnt imagine not owning at least one quad. Luckily I have two. My "07 was $6500 OTD in July of '07. Bought it for my Girlfriend. Traded in her 250 EX. A month later we broke up. So, I wound up with two Honda 450's.

having an issue with the unit when running under a load up a hill or in high gear, seems like the belt is slipping, there is a clapping sound coming from the primary clutch like it releases and snaps back in. i don't think I should have a noise like that. this is a friends unit and he has already replaced the primary twice with the same result.
not sure where to look next

      Hey I have a 1997 big bear 350 4x4
I replaced the shifter shaft and the shift arm linkage and the rod when I installed them all I was unaware that you had to line the dot on the shifter shaft with the gap on the linkage arm gap put it all back  together and rode it I can't get it to shift in the right gears  I can move the shift cam by hand and goes in different gears but with the shifter shaft in it riding I can't put it in R or N
Anyone know how to line up the shifter shaft and the shift cam s

      Hi guys
My 87 Bear 350 won't start and could use a hand.
Turn key on and Oil light turns on and then slowly fades out. (I think this is key to this) No start, not even a tick.
      battery and connections good
A Solenoid post jump turns it over
Neutral Safety Switch wire attached and seems good
It has not had a wire/switch on Rear Brake Pedal ever since I had it.
Any thoughts on some other things to troubleshoot this??
