Hi, I have been around everything with a motor since I was little, and finally purchased more to get my husband, and kids involved. I have 4 quads I will be searching around for information on. I have two 2002 Suzuki LT80K quads, a 1997 Yamaha Timberwolf 250, and a 1996 Kawasaki Bayou 220. I have had different ones throughout the years, and plan on buying another Yamaha Banshee. I plan on trying to learn more about all of them, so I can customize some of them. I know nothing about them besides how to race them, my dad always took care of the rest, but figured it was time for me to learn.

Quadsport is generally considered a powerhouse focusing on power and speed, Quadrunner is aimed more at versatility and utility usage a workhose. Good luck on your 230 great little machines.

A little more information:

I have to admit it, from a marketing standpoint alone, calling so many machines the LT230 wasn’t the best move on Suzuki’s behalf. There were some years when they offered a whopping 6-machine variant on the line at once with the letter designations at the end being the only way to identify one from the next.

There’s good news though- the letters tell the story. First the LT230 portion tells us right away that it uses Suzuki’s overhead cam 2-valve 229 cc (“230”) 4-stroke single-cylinder engine. Next the vehicle name tells us about the transmission. Suzuki used the designation “Quadsport” to identify machines boasting a manual clutch transmission (an S letter designation) and “Quadrunner” to describe those machines with automatic clutches.

When an E appeared at the end of the vehicle code, that meant the machine came equipped with electric starting (the pure S version was kick start).

Lastly the G series meant shaft final drive (as opposed to chain).

Wow! Thank you. So I must have a QuadRunner, has auto trans w/reverse and electric start. After the VIN is LT230E and then a stamped letter "H". Any idea what "H" is for? Mfr. Date is 06/86

As the title says, I've got a crankcase full of fuel / oil to deal with and figure I'll just start from the top and move through the system.  Going to start with a rebuild of the petcock and then the carb if the problem isn't fixed with the petcock rebuild.  I figure I'll go with a Moose kit unless others with experience recommend another brand (All Balls, etc.)
      Any suggestions?  Thanks in advance.

Just picked up an 84 LT185 ATV, I understand there was an accessory add  on that gave it electric start, anyone have any info about that kit?

Howdy ya'll. I am working ona 2000 Yamaha Breeze 125. It was in rought shape when I received it and I am working through issues as they pop up. The quad had been sitting for years. I was able to get her running again, but I need your help with the following issue:
I don't trust the transmission yet and I don't want to make problems any worse. So, I haven't pushed things hard at all. Low rpms, less than 5mph in reverse.

      Nuetral: Runs as expected
Reverse: She seems to be driving fine at slow speeds. Going into reverse at idle is fine, coming out of reverse back into neutral won't work (the shifter is just stuck). As soon as I turn off the quad, I am able to shift around without any issue.
Forward: It slips. It seems to only transfer power to the wheels on a smooth surface and going slightly downhill. When shifting into forward at idle, there is a clacking sounds during the transition. Shifting back to nuetral works just fine.

Other Notable Symptoms: There was old oil in the vbelt and when I was tuning the carb, it starting blowing out of the CVT cooling vent at the front of the quad. Made quite a mess. There is positive crankcase pressure due to piston blowby, that I have not decided whether or not I am going to fix (customer budget dependant).  Since the oil was old, much darker than the new oil that is in the crankcase, I am thinking it seeped past a bad seal while it was sitting for years. The oil that was in it when I first got it had gas in it.

Thoughts: I am thinking maybe there is an issue with the clutch. I worry about the old oil intermingling with the dry centrifugal clutch. I was thinking my next step would be to take the cover off of the clutch and inspect it.

Let me know what you all think. Any advice and ideas is greatly appreciated. This is only the 3rd quad I have worked on and I have a lot to learn.
