so i was out drivin around town when i passed a used powersports store. they had suzuki Rm250 sittin outside for $1650. no idea wat year model it is, but the bike looks clean.

im goin down soon to take a look at it. but heres the hard part. i have money saved up for suspension for my quad but now that i see this bike, im rele considering spending that money on the bike IF its in good condition.

so wats yalls opinion? 400s suspension or rm?

when i do go down there wat should i look for in a used 2 stroke? anything defects with RM models?

this will be my first two stroke and ive always wanted one.

i kno theres been numerious posts here about buying dirtbikes but hear me out.

any input is greatly appreciated

the main thing is the compression if u hav a tester then compare to specs. If not, see if its hard to kick, and it should start on 1st or second kick. as for suspension , do u race if not then get the bike. if u do race suspension will be ur best friend!

as a matter a fact i gunna race both XC and MX. but i kno alotta ppl who jus race XC on stock suspension. so i can delay MX till i get some cheap elkas.

im goin down to look at it around 3. so ill give her a kick since i dont have a tester.

ive wanted another bike ever since we sold my ttr for my 250.

anything else? valve leaking, oil spitting out?

every thing else will be obvious, check coolant its a 2 stroke so u dont hav to worry about valves, well there is a flapper valve on the bottom i cant remember wat its called. check exaust for excesive oil.

i didnt get to look at it today but my dad did. he jus looked over it rele quick but the only thing he noticed was oil comin outta the exhaust. andform wat i hear that is normal...correct? im goin 2moro to crank it up and put her thru the gears and all that stuff.

so id there nething else i need to look for?

well i jus got back, and there was numerous things wrong with it.

needed new sprockets, and chain

needs to have forks rebuilt

needs 2 bar clamp bolts(how in the hell can you lose those!?).

clutch was broke off.

and front rim was bent and barely retained air.

needed new brake pads all around.

and it needed a new front & rear fender .

they wanted 1650 for it. so i offered them 1200 considering all the repairs that it will be needing. they said that the kelley blue book price is 1650 and if they cant sell it at that price within 2 weeks than he'll give it to us for 1200.

other than those problems it ran great. but im not paying blue book price for a bike that needs 400-500 buck of repairs

so thats that. and im now taking zero's advice and looking for a 125 2stroke. or a cheap 250 2 stroke if im lucky

and so the search begins

What year? Alot of oil on in exhaust is a sign of a early 80s 2 stroke or the rings may go out soon. There is oil coming through somewhere. Or the guy didn't know how to ride a 2 stroke and didn't keep his RPMs up.

I personally wouldn't take it for 1200. Maybe a a grand. He dumped the bike REAL hard to break all that stuff. Chances are he used it for jumping. Seeing as the forks are blown. How's the back shock? Check the frame real good for any cracks, Right around the foot pegs and the welds.

Posted

rear shock is great. almost like its new...sorta fishy huh?

i kno he tried "stuntin" it b/c the plastics has black ashpalt marks on them. and the rear fender is LOOSE. it wobbles like crazy. so obviously he hit the rear fender while doin a wheelie.

im to not worried about the forks cause my buddy knos how to rebuild them and he'll do it for me for 50 bucks.

the frame was fine. no cracks suprisingly.

:biggrin::biggrin:

i could rele care less wat brand it is. but if i had a choice it would be a yz or cr.

i jus want one that is in my budget and wont require an assload of repairs.

haha TB, i would do that if i had a spare frame, but my intentions with this bike is to have 2 toys. my fo-hundy and the bike.

dammit i wish i could sell my 250ex. that way i can get a better bike and my 400s suspension :aargh: its jus sittin there gathering dust

put the thing on craigslist:yes:

its almost not worth it. the lack of suspension mods and the shaft drive pulls the 250ex down. but it would be a decent drag bike

i was origianlly gunna tade it in for my 400 but my mom said she wanted it. sooo she rides it once a year and when she does ride it, all she does is complain about the seat being too firm :skeptic:

lol , yeah it kinda sucks and it would be very time consuming to switch to chain drive:yes:

yup the idiot that suggested the 250ex be shaft driven over at honda should be beat to death.

they shouldve styled it after the 250r. they wouldve sold a whole lot more goin that route. but oh well. the 250ex is the most reliable quad i have ever seen.

As the title says, I've got a crankcase full of fuel / oil to deal with and figure I'll just start from the top and move through the system.  Going to start with a rebuild of the petcock and then the carb if the problem isn't fixed with the petcock rebuild.  I figure I'll go with a Moose kit unless others with experience recommend another brand (All Balls, etc.)
      Any suggestions?  Thanks in advance.

Just picked up an 84 LT185 ATV, I understand there was an accessory add  on that gave it electric start, anyone have any info about that kit?

Hi all.  New to the forum & quads.  Seems like a great place full of info.
I just recently picked up a 2005 Suzuki KingQuad LTA700.  I need a battery.  I've been reading up on conventional vs AGM types.  I have a Royal Distributing and Canadian Tire.  RD has 2 types avail for my year/Model a battery YTX16-BS CRANK $75, and BATTERY YTX20CH-BS YUASA $140.  Neither of these is the type from the manual FTZ16-BS.
from what I can tell... I think the only difference is the capacity with the $75 unit rated at 14 AH/10HR and the $140 unit rated at 18 AH/10HR ... which is the rating in the manual for the FTZ16-BS.  How much does this make a difference for nearly x2 the cost?
And about the models/type numbers.... what is important to know ... they all end in "-BS" but are the other details relevant or just manufacturer naming?

I just bought a 1984 Suzuki LT185 ATV and am looking for the OWNER’S manual. ( not a service manual)
I contacted Suzuki Canada but they have no paper or digital copies in their archives.
Does anyone possibly have a digital copy they’d be willing to share?
