stock which one would you consider to be quicker in ecceleration. plus my price limit is bout 3300 and it seems like i would get more for my money from a honda because it seems like the yamahas are a little more expensive, maybe not though what do you think

When my 2005 YFZ was stock I was smoking my buddies stock 2005 TRX now that we have both done major mods I'm still smoking him. It was worth the couple extra $$

That has a lot to do with the rider. Plus the 06+ models are faster than the 05/05 TRX's. The Yamaha has better acceleration due to the DOHC where Honda runs the single cam. The Hondas, according to every true speed reading I have seen, the TRX has a higher top speed by about 1mph.

I'm telling ya, sit on them both before you make your decision. They both feel completely different. I can't stand the ergonomics of Yamahas.

HAHA I feel the same about the Honda it just feels weird to ride. As for me smoking my buddy, we are both very experienced riders and are both WOT at all times. Yamahas have a stronger lower end all you have to do is gear up and you get your higher top speed. As for the 06 TRXes I know 3 people that have them 2 bought them at the same dealer on the same day and they are nothing but problems recall after recall starter problems all three are die hard Honda guys and not a one is happy with there bike. The 05's are worst the crankshafts eventually wears on a plate filling the oil filter with chunks of metal requiring a full rebuild or pop your motor which ever comes first. My buddies 05 TRX is still sitting after finding chunks of metal in his filter, he has maybe 60 hours on it. He wrote Honda a letter and is still waiting for a reply before he does any motor work.

I have always loved Honda I still have my 89 TRX 250R which is a great bike, I could never get rid of it. But I'm very happy with my YFZ after seeing all the problems all my buddies have had with the TRX 450s

I got an 07, they worked all the kinks out from the 06's. I have not had a single problem after 100s and 100s of miles and god knows how many hours. Mine fires up so damn easy, I don't understand the hard starting thing.

I have been extremely happy with mine.

Yeah I believe it, my buddy has a 08 with no issues too. I guess Honda just had a brain fart on the 06 model.

well the only problem is that i dont have the money to buy a 07 or 08 model. do you think that the 04 and 05 yamaha models are better than the honda as far as having problems with it.

Look for an 05 TRX450. There are plenty of them out there. The 05 TRX450 is what I would say about 75% of the guys that race 450's in the Baja1000 run the 05 model. Top speed is just a sprocket change away from being higher.

The early model YFZ's were loaded with problems.

I have had NO problems with my 05 YFZ. The 05 Honda on the other hand are loaded with MAJOR problems with the crank and main bearings just Google this : 2005 honda TRX 450 metal shavings in oil filter , and see the thousands and thousands of results that come up. Like I said before my buddy still has his 05 TRX with 60 hours on it sitting in his garage with a oil filter full of metal shavings I mean this thing was packed here's a photo of it 4904_view.jpg

The TRX450R is kick start, the TRX450ER is electric start.

I know plenty of people with 05's that have extremely strong running quads.

But I also know they had their share of problems...just like any early model quad.

I had an 05, had the whole motor built by BCS. Took the stock crank out witch has 3 YEARS on it. He said it was in good enough shape to sell for someone as a replacement! I love hondas, always have. Some have there problems alike every other brand.

NEVER buy anything without riding it first. Ride one of each and see which one you like better. I agree with Stupidbot that ergonomics are quite different between those bikes, I too felt the Yamaha was quite wierd to ride.

My Buddy now has an 08 YFZ, I will honestly admit it pulls a lot harder out of the hole but i cant stand to ride it. I think its the foot peg to bar ratio, im 6,2' and when i ride it i have to lean way back b/c i feel as if I am going to go over the bars if the back end bucks. I feel more at home on the honda. But I do like the taller stem, so i added Gibson +1 and Flex Bars just to get the extra rise out of mine. But stock for stock the yammi feels stubby and twitchy.

And to add, he spent about 3 hours trying to find a bad ground wire, it was cutting out the motor. There also know for that too.

i have a 08 yfz the top speed of an 08-09 yfz stock is 78.8mph and top speed of 08-09 stock trx450 is 69.5(proof in dirt wheels mag) both accelerate good yfz has an extra valve so probly accelrate fast by a lil.... but on the other hand the trx has more torque and the hondas are bulit proof and extremly reliable yamahas are good with that 2 but have alot of problems with their bolts thay always snap if i tighten.....yfz has lower center of gravity seats thiner trx more comfort wider seat.... out of all the sport 450s the trx atrabutes are all good just do not exxel...i could go on 4 days with this lol:laugh:

You mean Yamahawheels. That is absolutely false. How are the 08-09 model slower than th3 -6-07 when they are the same thing. You have to look at how Dirt Wheels handles shootouts. The KTM 525 whooped the Raptor 700 in EVERY section of the test but the Raptor was better overall? Go over to TRX450R.org and tell them that the stock TRX only goes 69. I hate to break it to you but you and the mag are wrong.

Yamahawheels gets no respect from me, they always choose yamaha even over the KTM. Try about 77 for the YFZ and 75-76 on the TRX. I have GPS proof that a fully stock TRX450 will run faster than 69. My piped, air filter, and jet kit will hit near 80 according to GPS.

I don't know what issue, they did a shootout between the 2 back around the time the first KTM's came out.(this was the straw that broke the camel's back)

Nothing was directed personal, IMO they are a very one sided magazine. I really like their content but don't care for the shootouts.

Hi all.  New to the forum & quads.  Seems like a great place full of info.
I just recently picked up a 2005 Suzuki KingQuad LTA700.  I need a battery.  I've been reading up on conventional vs AGM types.  I have a Royal Distributing and Canadian Tire.  RD has 2 types avail for my year/Model a battery YTX16-BS CRANK $75, and BATTERY YTX20CH-BS YUASA $140.  Neither of these is the type from the manual FTZ16-BS.
from what I can tell... I think the only difference is the capacity with the $75 unit rated at 14 AH/10HR and the $140 unit rated at 18 AH/10HR ... which is the rating in the manual for the FTZ16-BS.  How much does this make a difference for nearly x2 the cost?
And about the models/type numbers.... what is important to know ... they all end in "-BS" but are the other details relevant or just manufacturer naming?

Just picked up an 84 LT185 ATV, I understand there was an accessory add  on that gave it electric start, anyone have any info about that kit?

Looking for two stock front wheels for 92 TRX300 2WD.   I think they are 6 x11" size.

Just picked up a 2006 Dvx400. There is a switch I can't figure out what it is or where it goes. Has 3 wires (light blue, black and Yellow)

on my honda trx 500 we have no power to the ignition switch for starting or ignition
we have lights and horn working
      all fuses are fine
have traced through the harness and cant find any broken wires or bad connections
from what we have gathered so far the pgm fi unit is not sending any power to the fuel pump relay to power everything up.
if we put power direct to the ignition switch plug then everything works but wth the key in the off position.
does this sound like a faulty pgm fi unit?
