If anyone can offer any assistance in replacing the rear cv boot any help would be appreciated. I am having trouble getting the rear shaft off of the quad. I figured the part would have some sort of manual but that would be too easy. Thanks again!

Should just pop out with a little persuasion. Stick a small pry bar between the cv joint and the case and give it a little push while pulling on the cv joint. there is a snap ring that sits inside a recess. Just dont go all prime-evil on it.

Remove the rear wheel and hub. Remove the spindle, remove the nuts and pins that secure the ball joints and then rap on the side of the spindle to knock the ball joints loose. Once you have the spindle off, the inner part of the half-shaft will unbolt from the rear carrier.

Does the retaining clip inside the boot have to come out (and if so how?) to remove the axle, or just by pulling the axle will it come out?

Thank you again for your information!!

If I am not mistaken, the inner part of the joint is bolted to the brake disc or the sprocket depending on what side it is on. As far as the circlip goes, I think it just holds the joint to the half shaft. It shouldn't need to be removed unless you are actually replacing or rebuilding the joint itself. What Voodoo is referring to is the snap ring that holds the inner side of a traditional cv joint in, that type just slides straight into a splined socket usually on a differential. I believe that yours is a bolt on type.

Once the half shaft it off the machine, just pull back the boot you are replacing, or cut it off for that matter and the joint should slide right apart. Then slide the new boot over the shaft and put the joint back together and install the retaining straps on the boot. Make sure to re-grease the joint.

O3 sat a while. Engine is running fine. I got it into neutral, did some general tune-up and cleaning then pulled the shifter pedal up and it locked up and will not release into neutral again.  Does anyone have experience with this problem?  Thanks for looking and any help.

Good morning, I am new to the forum. I'm 75 years old and love getting ATVs back to usable condition. I particularly like the 2006-2009 Arctic Cat 250 Utility. I currently own 6. The 2006 I am working on only has reverse and low gear. The "drive shaft" in the transmission is completely stripped where the high gear would mesh. Has anyone on here replaced the shaft. I'm told I have to split the case. I was hoping that someone on here could let me know how hard it will be. I already have it stripped down to where the shaft coming in from the clutch side is the only thing left. I was hoping I could just remove the driven clutch and drive it out from there. Directions say different. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
