I have a scrambler 400 and it will not go forward. Reverse works fine but when i shift it into forward it just sits there, it just happened the other day, up until then it ran fine. Any ideas where to start trouble shooting or what is wrong?

Can you hear it click into gear and are your shift lights working? I have the 98 xplorer 400L but i am assuming they are a lot alike. Mine was messing up and I had to adjust the shift rods from the gear shift to the transmission. Worked perfect after adjustment. I would check there first.

Is there any grinding when you try to shift into forward. I have that problem on my polaris and I had to fix the gears that had worn down. If there is no grinding and you are pushing into gear hard then something might be loose in the shifter.

check your shifting linkage...i have a similar problem with my 94 polaris... if you do hear a grinding when you go into reverse or any gear and you need to force it you need to lower you rpms...there is a screw on your carb that allows you to do that

I agree that you need to check your linkage, if you hear it going into gear with a "click" then it is deeper than linkage and you need to check your gears in your tranny. If you are not confident in your skills then I would recomend taking it to your local shop because the Polaris tranny can sometimes be diffucult if you are unsure what is wrong with it.

The linkage might need readjusted. Check out mine at atvwheelin.com there are other tech tips there too.

Its all a guess till you crack it open...Dog gear or silent chain would be my guess. if it grinds most likley the chain if your hear nothing broken dog gear..still just a guess.

Good luck PolarisATVrepair.com

I am unable to find a wiring diagram for this UTV.  When I turn the switch to on, the contractor does not engage.  The Brake pressure switch and the parking brake switches work correctly. What else should I be looking for?  All of the diagrams I have found are for newer models and the wire color coding is different.

      Thanks

Hi everyone and thanks for reading.
My husband and me are getting ready to host the 2nd Quad Runners event at our nudist campground. The first one (last year) went pretty well with about 20 quads attending and have to say, it was a smaller group, but they made up for their size with the large interest in partying and there was plenty of nudity as the Saturday night went on.
We have decided to host another one this summer, but we are looking for some fun (but safe) riding events. Our grounds are almost all flat and remember we are a nudist campground so many of us are bare as* naked so "slow ride" events would be the best.
Give us your thoughts and ideas and feel free to ask us anything you would like, and we will answer right here in the thread.
Thanks for your help and ride safe.
BTW, let us know what "anything goes" means for this thread section.

Just getting into this issue really. Been replacing solenoids but now I'd like to track down the problem. This time I'm not getting neutral/reverse lights or start button. Was on a creek ride when it started doing this recently. It cranks by arcing the solenoid and gives me no light or start button but if I crank with the pull cord....the neutral light and the button work. Turn it off and try to crank with the key and nothing. I'm looking into the safety switch issue tomorrow and re charging the battery. Just figured this was odd enough of a problem that you guys might be familiar. Thanks

MY MAX 4 6X6 2009, now this will actually go anywhere including across the water. In the 3rd photo I had gone up the river about 30 meters then climbed up the bank, 6X6 owners call it "swimming"
