I put a set of tattoo tracks on my 2010 renegade 800r x xc and it melted the plastic on the side by the exhaust. The hole is about the size of a tennis ball. They gave me new plastics but what do I do to make it not do it again? Any advice?

^^ what is listed above...just go to any auto parts store like advanced auto and buy heat foil. same stuff they use around your exhaust to keep the exhaust from melting the plastic. One side is adhesive so just put it on the spot were a lot of heat builds up and that should take care of it.

What makes you think that putting the tracks on caused the hole? You say the hole was close part of the exhaust, I would assume that it was heat from the exhuast that melted the plastic. If adding the tracks is what made the difference, that would mean that the added load is making the engine run hotter. You may want to beef up your cooling system, run a higher octane fuel, or get a fuel controller so you can richen up the air/fuel mix.

Thank you all for the advice. I think I got it figured out. The factory put extra heat tape where it had melted and told me that there wasn't any there on the old one. I had to hold my tongue because I had told them that to begin with. The tracks are an added load so the engine runs hotter and not as much air goes through the machine. When they had melted we were not running in good snow so that probably had something to do with the lack of cooling also. It is all good now no more melting. Hopefully!!!

Hi, I have been around everything with a motor since I was little, and finally purchased more to get my husband, and kids involved. I have 4 quads I will be searching around for information on. I have two 2002 Suzuki LT80K quads, a 1997 Yamaha Timberwolf 250, and a 1996 Kawasaki Bayou 220. I have had different ones throughout the years, and plan on buying another Yamaha Banshee. I plan on trying to learn more about all of them, so I can customize some of them. I know nothing about them besides how to race them, my dad always took care of the rest, but figured it was time for me to learn.

I recently read an article about restoring or at least improving the looks of faded and discolored plastic body parts. In the article it suggested using a 50/50 mixture of boiled linseed oil and paint thinner. You mix it up and apply it with a brush or rag to rub it in and remove the oxidation. I curious to find out if anyone has had experience with doing this and what was their short/long term results of doing so. I would hate to try it and find out that a few weeks/months down the road my plastic body parts self destruct.

First post here need some help/advice. I bought a 2001 king quad 300, vin number JSAAK43A212111871. I have been trying to do some basic maintenance as it runs but doesn't idle all that well . I want to take out and clean/repair the  carb but when looking for parts it ask for model X Y K1 K2. How do I know which model I have? I have tried some vin decoders but they haven't told me. If anyone could recommend a carb rebuild kit for my quad Id appreciate it. Also any tips on tracking down an owners manual?
