1999 Yamaha Timberwolf No Start

I bought a 1999 Yamaha timberwolf thinking it had a carb problem as the previous owner said he had been riding it and now it would not start. After getting it home I check the plug and had no spark. I got a copy of the wiring diagram but unable to trace it. I am an electrician and electronic tech, but this is a different schematic to me. Can someone walk me thru process... the run stop switch does this etc. power or ground, open or close to run or stop?

any ideas of trouble shooting the electrical would be helpful too.

Thanks

  • 2 weeks later...

There are four wires that go from I assum the stator to the CDI. The brown and red while spinning the engine reads 60 volts ac. on the w/r and w/g I get .1 volts ac. The brown and red read 300 ohms and the w/r and w/g read 0. I assum the brown and red are for charging the CDI and the other 2 are the pulsar coil to tell the CDI to pulse the coil to make a spark across the spark plug. With a 0 ohm reading an almost no volts on this coil I think it may be the problem. What do you think?

Well it took some studing and research but I finally figured it out. The pulsar coil is open. Different wiring symbols and I think maybe mislabeling, but with patientence, that I was forced to have I traced it out.

Thanks for your help with the articles and links. When I get the coil in and installed I will let you know how it came out.

thanks

I priced a pulsar coil from 29 to 125 dollars. I went with the 29 dollar one. Got it in today. It is the same size. Just checking with my pocket knife, the magnet in the old one (original) seems to be just a tad bit stronger, but not really sure. I forgot to check the ohms doggone it. But anyway I put it together held the spark plug to the block and saw a gooooood SPARK!

Put the plug in, choke, and VARRRRRRROOOOOOMMMM, VARRRRROOOOMMM!!!!!!

Sweet sound.

Thanks for all the info and help.

Roger

Hello, im looking for some input on this situation i have. My 94 Mojave has no spark, and i have no idea what it is. Ive replaced/tested the magneto, the pickup coil, cdi, the ignition coil. Even the key and Killswitch. I haven't tested the harness its self, but i have tried another harness and still nothing. The only thing i can think of is the fly wheel itself. I have found a lot of metal shavings in the fly wheel and have cleaned it the best I could. But nothing happened afterwards. I am truly stumped here and hoping some of yous could shed some knowledge/ideas that could help get this thing to fire.

Hi, I am having issues with my TRX350D fuel pump.  It suddenly stopped running so I have replaced all the fuses and cleaned all the terminals.  I have fitted a new pump, fuel cut-off relay and rectifier.  Still nothing!!  The pump runs when attached to a battery.  The engine will start on the choke and the filter fills with fuel but it will  not rev and dies when the choke is closed. I have power to the relay but nothing at the pump black/white wire when cranking the engine.  Any ideas where to go from here would be very much appreciated!!

      Hey I have a 1997 big bear 350 4x4
I replaced the shifter shaft and the shift arm linkage and the rod when I installed them all I was unaware that you had to line the dot on the shifter shaft with the gap on the linkage arm gap put it all back  together and rode it I can't get it to shift in the right gears  I can move the shift cam by hand and goes in different gears but with the shifter shaft in it riding I can't put it in R or N
Anyone know how to line up the shifter shaft and the shift cam s

      Hi guys
My 87 Bear 350 won't start and could use a hand.
Turn key on and Oil light turns on and then slowly fades out. (I think this is key to this) No start, not even a tick.
      battery and connections good
A Solenoid post jump turns it over
Neutral Safety Switch wire attached and seems good
It has not had a wire/switch on Rear Brake Pedal ever since I had it.
Any thoughts on some other things to troubleshoot this??

My king quad 700 runs rough when cold then won't start some times but not often when it's hot. And occasionally smoke's a lot when it's cold I'm guessing that's rings but I'm worried unless it's causing the other problems

      All help is appreciated thanks
