We do have a Yamaha tech here, he may chime in with some info, but I also think you would be best off checking ebay or another source for a service manual. I believe they are a must for anyone who is going to be working on their own macnines. You may even be able to find an owners manual on ebay, it will have simple service info like what types of oil to use and where to put it.

OK---i serviced the unit today--got along OK except for one bit of info---------i changed the oil and put in new filter----added 1 and 1/2 qt of oil-----do you measure by sticking it only OR do you stick and then screw the stick in to measure???? I get just above add mark by sticking only and get full when i stick and screw it in----------thx doug

Hondas= screw it down, Yammers=no. make sure to use ATVOIL, NOT car oil.

I always buy a service manual when I get a new rig- there's just too much to remember hahaha

A measuring cup called a Ratio-Rite or similar is a great investment, about 5 bucks. All bike stores will have them- at Harley they're right next to the drip pans...

Starting this build thread to keep up with everything on my build and hope to motivate someone!

I picked up this 2008 Yamaha Big Bear 250 2 weeks ago. A guy that I hunt with parked it at the hunt club for a year or so before I asked him if he wanted to sell. He said " fill my feeder and throw some batteries in my cameras, and you can have it". Sounds like a deal to me!
I have attached some pictures of how it sat under a tarp in the woods and when I got it home and cleaned up a little.

      Greetings,
Have a 88 LT80 that been sitting for a couple years. Bought a new piston, cylinder and head. Installed these, rolled it over and it quickly locks up.  Took carb apart. It was full of what appears to be 2 cycle oil. Cleaned it, but keeps locking up and 2 cycle oil continues to seap from exhaust port.  When i installed new cylinder, I noticed crankcase was full of oil.  I'm now wondering if that oil is what's getting sucked up into cylinder.  Should there be no oil in crankcase?  If that the case, how is crank and rod lubricated?  Sorry, never worked on a 2 stroke. Thanks!
