i have a 95 bayou 220 not sparking. i have measured all of the connectors on the cdi and most are within the manuals ranges. but there are a couple that measured alot higher than their given ranges. does this indicate the cdi is bad ?

ok was you meaning the exciter coil and the pickup coil? if so i checked resistance on both and here is what i got. exciter in manual said between 100 - 190 and i got 133, the pickup said between 85 - 130 and i got 114. when i was checking resistance in the cdi it was mostly the blue wire paired with other wires that was giving off alot higher readings and the blue wire comes from the pickup coil. any idea what else i might try ?

unfortunately not, it would be nice though because i really don't want to pay for another one and then find out that is not the problem. i already bought another ignition coil and sparkplug and neither of those fixed it. is there any other way to test the cdi besides just measuring resistance?

We rebuilt the engine put wiring back together it ran before but now it won’t and has a weak spark we have been trying to figure it out for about a week and still nothing changes does anyone have any help on what it might be?

My bayou 250 came to a stop and would not not start, it turned out the starter clutch had a fit and died. I changed the starter clutch which had sheared off the 3 bolts attaching it to the flywheel and everything went smoothly. However, when I went to start it I found it would not start. On investigation I found the timing out of whack, by alot. Thinking it was something I did on the repair, I repeated the process of removing and reinstalling the starter clutch and related components and resetting the engine to TDC. Tried to start and immediately realized the timing was out of sync again.
Is there something I'm missing? Could there have been a bigger issue, possibly on the other side of the engine? I don't understand why, with a brand new starter clutch there would be such movement in the crank. The timing chain and sprockets do not look worn and appears to be tight on the tensioner. When I move by hand everything appears to move as you would expect. But when I try to start it using the starter or the pull start it goes out of whack!

What's the proper diameter recoil rope to order for a Bayou 220? I didn't see anything in the manual.

Bought the project a few weeks ago with weak and intermittent spark. I could smack the CDI box with a screwdriver and it would work fine for a few days. Now, the smack trick is not working and machine is running awful with the weak spark and will most often not fire enough to turn the engine over through combustion (cranks very good). I ordered the GY6 CDI to see if I can get it going again as these CDI boxes are way too expensive even used. battery is fully charged and charging very good.

Wondering if anyone knows how the GY6 (6-pin AC) CDI would wire to this machine. Attached is the electrical diagram. My confusion is with the green and orange wires sharing the 2-pin connector and the Blk/Red wire that runs to the magneto solo. How would I get AC power to the CDI through pin 1 on the GY6 when the CDI has two wires to the pickup-myabe just try one (orange then green) at a time?
