2004 Arctic Cat 400 - Missing

Recommended Posts

I have had problems with my artic cat 2004 400 4x4 manual transmission. It started with me having not riden in a month and when i started to ride gas came out of the overflow and a miss was going on. Cleaned carb and adjusted float and stoped the leak but miss was still there. Started leaking again 1 week later and went back in carb and found black rubber due to fuel line coming apart. Cleaned and reassembled. No more leak and cranks and idles fine but when riding still has small miss that you can hear sometimes poping back through carb. I have adjusted float, adjusted pilot screw, checked valve adjustment changed spark plug changed fuel line all seems fine. Could this be electrical??? When given almost full throttle out of gear it will miss bad is this due to a rev limitor or does this modle have one???? This is driving me nuts. Any advice will be helpful Thanks.

Thanks for reply. It does not produce no smoke as though it is getting to much. It sounds like it might need more gas. If airbox is left off and you open 3/4 gas and will have a fine mist coming back out of carb instead of sucking in as though valves needing adjusted but they are fine (i checked). The best way i can describe the miss is, as i am riding it is though a plug wire breaking down. More of a skiping and a slight pop back thorough carb that i can hear. Diaphram looks good along with everything in carb including main jet(have taken out and cleaned). Could my float still be out of adjustment to cause this? Electrical?

i have read in the arctic cat forums, and you might have the intake valve too tight. some guys have had the same problem and fixed it by leaving just a tiny tad of play in the valve. im not sure if you have the spec sheet on the valves, and im not sure if you want to try this without proper valve clearances.

but i would put money on the carb having a twerk ...

2022 Sector 550, 414 miles on it and the gas gauge reads empty.  I topped off the gas and it didn't change.
There is no fuse that I could find.  No access at the gauge cluster.
Wiring on the top of the tank looks good, properly connected.
Could the sending unit in the tank be stuck or broken?
Has anybody removed the tank lid?  Any tricks?
      Any other ideas?
      Thanks for any help,
      Clyde

Hello I’m new here and was wondering is anyone knew of good replacement part numbers for front struts and rear shocks for this atv? I think I’ve found a new rear shock, that looks like the original but there is no dimensions or anything and was wondering if there are any afterMarket new front struts available. I know it’s a long shot but any help would be appreciated.

1996 4x4 Timberwolf rearend width. Can someone with some knowledge of these machines answer this question for me please. Are all 4x4 timberwolves this narrow in the rearend? These tires are so close the right one actually rubs the muffler.  Thinking about seeing if there are any spacers out there for it. I need at least an inch more clearance.

      Hi Guys!

New member and could really use your advice. I would have to believe this has been an issue for others but a search here came up with nothing......? (Probably me not doing search correctly)

      I have an 87 Big Bear 350 YFM350FWT
The OEM Mikuni BTM carb is shot and would rather replace than rebuild.
It is no longer made and I have had good luck with NICHE carbs so I ordered a #K-CRB-0006 This was what they said was replacement when ordered. This Carb only uses 1 Throttle cable. The Slide is linked so it uses one. (OEM had 2nd cable coming through top to move slide)

Problem is when I ordered a replacement Cable from NICHE (#C-CBL-0061) the Cable wire is a little short, not allowing Throttle to return all the way down to Idle position. I called NICHE and they are at a loss. Haven't gotten back to me after 2+ weeks.

What would you recommend other than a carb rebuild?
Can I just use 1 of the OEM cables (It is the right length) and snip/disconnect the other that went to top of Carb for Slide?
      Or ??

Thanks in advance for any advice you have!!

      Dave
