this is my 1st atva kawisaki bayou 300 4x4. its alot of fun. im in the process of retireing from farming so i have plenty of time and plenty of places to ride. iv been useing the beast for checking fences and my trap line. i wasnt sure how it would do in the snow, thats why i call it the beast, havent been stuck yet. looking at the map it appears im the only one on here from s dak. i guess s dak. is one of the few states you can lisence and drive atv's on public roads. not sure if ill do that yet or not. theres nothing i have to work on yet on the beast but im sure ill eventually be looking for a manual to make adjustments etc.

This thing came with a cheap aftermarket carb on it the problem I'm having is it won't start with choke installed into carburetor it will start and get run without it installed then bogs out after about 2 min run time I've checked timing , compression, checked valves for proper clearance , also did a smoke test for air leaks found none.

Hey all, new to the forum! I just bought a 1998 Kawasaki bayou 300, 4x4 not running. Initially I found no spark. Ended up playing with the plug wire (made sure plug top and wiring was touching) and got spark yesterday and the quad fired up off ether. Come to work on it today and now no spark again. Before I got spark and now today if I touch the plug after cranking I get shocked, and it will spark after I release the starter button. I was jumping the quad with a freshly charged car battery that has 12v while cranking. Cleaned out the kill switch and ignition button. All looks good. Purchased new plugs. They're are a lot of wires cut/ disconnected. But shouldn't matter if I got spark without them connected...

HI everyone. New to this forum. I have 98 Kawasaki Bayou 400 with an apparent electrical issue. I have the Clymer manual, but I am not exactly sure where to start. The issue started a month ago and the neutral light would go on and off intermittently. Eventually it went completely off , and I thought it was a shifting issue. I took the case off and checked the clutch and all mechanical shifting components are good, so I think I eliminated that. The switch sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. Last time I tried, I did hear a clicking sound near where the battery is right before the light went out. Does anyone have any ideas where to start? Hoping this is an easy fix.

My carb is kaput.  Cannot be rebuilt.  Anyone know of an aftermarket carb that will work or a source for used carbs for this model and year?  Any info appreciated.
      Thanks ahead of time.
