I have been rebuilding this ATV for about a week and a half now. I rebuilt the carb, changed the air filter, and cleaned out just about everything I could think to clean. I tried starting it last night and the starter button would not work, so I pulled out the start button and saw that the wires were useless. I finally got to a point where I was able to hot wire it and get the engine to turn. The engine turns, but will not fire. It is clearly a problem with not getting spark or not getting fuel. I just replaced the spark plug and battery. At this point, I am a little stuck as to what approach to take. Im thinking I need to put starter fluid in to see if I can get it to turn over with that and if it does, I need to work on the fuel system.

Has anyone worked on this quad before who has any experience or advice to share? I am an engineering student at Clemson and this is a summer project for me to rebuild an ATV instead of buying a new one. I am ready to learn! Thanks!

If the plug is wet, its getting fuel.

Even if its not getting fuel, not having a spark is the main problem.

You grounded the spark plug and turned the motor over, and there is no spark, correct?

If correct, check the on/off switch and any others. It may have a brake switch. If all that stuff is good, you need to test the coil and stator (generator). You will use a ohm meter. You will need to find out the correct readings.

That will keep you busy. :)

Hi all. I have a timberwolf 250 2nd that will not start.. I thought it was out of time bc the guy I got it from said it just quit on him. The tensioner had a nut welded to it and it was like2 teeth off. I installed new tensioner and chain and it still will not start. It has fire and it will not hit off brake cleaner. It has compression. Haven't put a gauge but I'm sure it will crank and run with what it has. I double checked my work and it's still in time. Spot on. Both valves move. I'm about to put a feeler gauge on them and I'll cone back but other than that any ideas?

      Hi all,
Looking for some help on a starter/bendix issue. Can Am outlander 450 2017. While cranking to start, the starter spins and engages into the ring gear. After a few seconds the bendix retracts while still spinning and there is no damaged teeth on the drive pulley.

I got a couple yamaha moto 4 225cc quads. The guy gave me several old starters with them. I see kits are available to rebuild them but does anyone have tips or tricks for doing it? I haven't rebuild a starter before so im not sure what to look out for.

I have a 1997 Yamaha Big Bear 350 4x4. It used to start right up. Then all of a sudden it wouldn't crank. I have a schematic for it so I started tracing the problem. I had no power at the starter solenoid. According to the schematic the power comes from the neutral switch and through the starter circuit cut out relay. I cannot locate the cut out relay on this machine.. If I apply power to the relay it will crank with the start button.
The neutral switch is hard to get to with all the brackets on this thing. I did find out from all my research that if I apply the rear brake lever it will start.
Does anybody know if the cut out relay exists and where it might be found?
