thanks for link mwke
im so happy to have it back, they got the engine done way quicker than i expected. i havent had the chance to ride it yet, but im going to try to ride it around the house tommorow afternoon.
-
well my baby is back! the dealer cam through and paid for all the parts and shipping so all i have to pay is labor, so we took em up on that deal.
they bored the cyclinder 25thousandths of an inch, can anyone tell me what that is equivalent in CC's?
im thinking around a 406. anywho its back and ready to ride! cant wait to break in my engine
-
im pretty sure thats the shiftfork going out. a bad shift fork can cause damage over time if its not caught. so i would look into it.

:bf_rasta: we're thur

Thanks yep that is what it is going to become. I think I am more excited than he is.
your son is lucky scott,
I have to beg my dad to help me work on my quad and come riding with me
congrats on the new toy

NONONONO! Nothing of mine was stolen. It was my dads garage. They didn't take the bikes. The CR500 is in there and his Kawasaki 1600 street bike.
ohh my bad
blonde moment
well i hope your pops gets his tools back.
-
sorry to heat that bot, hope yall find your belongings.
the worst thing you can do a guy. steal his quad
-
Did you change the rear width or just the front?
just the front. the rear is only one inch narrower than the front now with my 20x11x9 razrs. besides i like the rear narrower than the front.
-
i wouldnt recommend either YFZR or LTR.
they are both too wide for your riding i think.
dont you ride trails?
yea i actually race XC with a guy that has +3's on his z400 and he gets around just fine. i have +2's on the 400 right now and it is awesome. i will never like a stock width bike the way i like my 400 with +2's.
besides the ltr and yfz450r is 50 inches wide my 400ex is 48.5inches wide so it wont be a huge difference.
heres a picha of it to show the width
-
That is just your dealership. Mine has bent over backwards for me. They are a ma and pop shop so to speak. Family owned. They even have a pic of me racing hanging in their store.
well maybe its just the south cause every honda dealer here are complete as******. with the exception of one. but they are 3 hours away.
the suzuki and yamaha dealers are awesome down here. my buddy completly broke his swingarm and brake housing on his rear end of his z400 and they took care of it free of charge. and this was the owner mistake, not dealers like in my situation.
thats why i said ill never buy honda unless its used or from ritchie powersports(the only good honda dealer down here). only new quad i will buy is ltr450 or yfz450r.
-
I truly hope this exp doesn't turn you away from from Honda. I truly think you got a lemon.
well in a way it does and in another way it doesnt.
i wont buy another new honda again. but theres a chance ill buy a used trx450r later on since im boring the 400ex.
im done with honda's stealerships. im happy with their products just the rider suport and customer service left alot to be desired for.
-
I think they would just take 300 off the bill. Not give him cash.
correct.
the cost of parts are only 350 bucks and thats with sending the cyclinder to be honed for a 416.
so as long as my dad doesnt mind helping me ,which im sure he wont, me and him are going to do it.
-
did you already know about the CRF timing chain?
yea a couple guys on exriders told me about it awhile back. its doesnt strech nearly as fast as the stock 400ex cam chain.
-
welcome to the site!
i see you have a yfz...have you had any troubles outta it?
-
go for a 416 and when you buy a cam chain, save about 60-70 bucks and buy a crf450r cam chain. people i have heard from say the older crf450r cam chain is the exact same as a heavy duty cam chain for a 400ex. since the crf chain is about 35-50 and the 400ex heavy duty chain is about 110. theres an easy save. try FST's 416, its cheaper i think. yeah you will need a heavy duty chain and the crf chain is the same as a heavy duty one, so thats the way to go, i know this because my cam chain is streched and loose! i think this might be a common 400ex problem.
yessir the crf cam chain fixes that problem.
and i was thinking just thinking a 87mm bore and stroke and 87mm cylinder.11:1 compression and maybe a stage 1 or 2 hotcam. and all the other neccsisties i stated in my previous post.
-
well the warranty people said they would take 300 off the 900
but thats still 600 bucks for me to pay for the dealer to do it.
me and dad are thinking about doing it ourself and doing all the necessary mods for a 416...still havent decided. and then theres the chance of the ltr. like i said, its still to early to make desicions.
-
looks good buddy, my quad is a bi*** to start to. but in the warm weather its defiantly alot easier.
-
unfortunaly keeping my head up high ended up not working
i just got a call from the dealer, and they said that i will need, new piston, rings,it needs to be bored, the cam chain is severely streched, and it needs to valve stems.
the total is right under $900 bucks.
and the warranty wont cover it because its "wear and tear".
so now i guess ill take it to the warranty department and we will go over our case.
how can a 2007 400ex burn up in 9 months?
im pissed beyond belief right now :dammit::censored::soapbox::soapbox::soapbox::soapbox::soapbox:
-
i completely reliazed that. but on a 9 month old quad just sounds a little fishy.
what can honda's reasoning be for a 9 months old quad needing a rebuild? other than a defected part which will be on hondas bill...not mine.
what im saying is, there a people that ride the piss out of they're 400ex's and dont even maintain them and they last longer than my quad did.
i will probbly be taking it over the dealers head, and get in contact with honda. there is aboslutly no excuse for a 9 month old 2007 400ex, to need a rebuild this early in the engines life, when it hasnt been ridden hard and has been maintained correctly.
-
Well then,,,,,that is some good news.....
we followed through with our part of the deal and didnt void the warranty, now its up them to hold up their part. but i wont know yay or nay until a couple days.
-
i saw robbies, i was laughing my arse off when the guy on the radio said.
"robbie madison, you are the f*cking man"
-
nope, no pipe, no filter, no jets. the engine is 100% stock. i have never touched.
that is why i opted to do my suspension first. because a pipe would void my warranty.
so the only aftermarket stuff on my quad is suspension, and cosmetic.

thats teh beauty in buying something, you never know what you're goin to get or whats goin to happen....my 400ex is 9 years old, a 2000 model...i've been racing it since May 2007 and now, last August for the first time in its life, I had to have it rebuilt...here's something you need to check that we were totally unaware of and only found out about it after it had blown....
in the 400ex oil tank, where the bottom oil line hooks on, disconnect that line and there's a bigger like 17 or 19 mm nut thing that you need to unscrew and there is a mesh like screen attached to that....what happened to me was that screen was plugged, we never knew about it until it was too late...and that's what ended up blowin me up...or atleast helping...
just a thought, i'd check it if i were you.
ive heard of a screen on the 450rs but wasnt sure if they were on the 400ex. well i'll have to look into it whenever i get it outta the shop. thanks for the info wheeler
-
me to, sucks that i was the one to experience it.
if i could go back 9 months, i wouldve picked that pretty white 450r before the 400ex if i saw this coming
warrior is out yfz project begins!

looks good. but whats up with those shocks?
those arent the stock yfz shocks cause yfz shocks have piggyback rezzies.
