I think i would check the brake fluid and the switch to make sure its operating properly. Do the brakes work and the brake light come on.
-
That does seem a little excessive, but that also depends on usage.
-
I check it quite often but do not change it until it starts looking darker.

I generally use Non Ethynol fuel in all my small engines. I just got back from the gas station and that fuel has really increased in price since last year, I will continue to use it, even though its north of 1.00 a gallon more. That seems minor compared to cleaning and repairing carbs every year.
I was just curious as to what others are doing in regard to gas in their quads, i know a lot of the newer ones are fuel injected which shouldnt pose a problem, but i have had lots of problems with rust and jell forming in carbs when using ethynol fuel.

I really like the sythetic leads also, very nice smooth rollup nicely and are strong, i dont think they are as strong as cable but for ATV winch plenty strong.
-
I agree also those mounts are very rigid when mounted.

Good used seats are hard to find, i usually recover mine, if the foam is in good shape thats a plus, if not i usually use the thin self adhesive foam to build it back up to the original shape, and seat covers are fairly cheap on Ebay.

Nice machine, a real workhorse.

Thank you for the post , very talented young men.

I also like stock size tires, even though i run Bear Claws i stick with the OEM stock size . I feel the manufacturer decided on this size for the ATV for safety reasons.

Same here, yes US, in fact i was going to register mine even thought it was 23 years old, and DMV seemed surprised i wanted to do that and told me even if you register it still not legal to ride on a public road.

Not sure which problem you have idling or smoking but Smoke when you let off the gas, could be faulty valve guide seals, but shouldnt have been the case in 2013 it was new, unless they came with faulty seals.

Thats good you got the new switch working the starter, the brown wire you were talking about earlier generally goes to the lights you might check that to make sure its in good shape.

Thats not all bad at least some activity out of it, it sounds to me like the sensor that send the speedo information is shorted out. You might locate that and make sure it has a good ground.
-
Have you tried putting voltage directly to speedo to see if it will come on, if so then you know it works and you can start tracing wires to see where the fault is, if not it just might be an internally shorted speedo. You could try taking it apart and see if the circuits are coroded and clean them up and see if it helps. Just some thoughts..

It looks fairly complete, whenever i get a parts bike i look it over and say this is not bad and end up fixing it and turning it into a runner also, but thats what i like to do take junk and make it good again, i think its the challenge, not necessarily that i need another runner.

That would be good to do that every so often, i have been putting ani seize on everything including those bolts, dont know if it actually works because of the heat but couldnt hurt.
-
Good point, but i think you will be OK just keep it covered out of the weather, its taken 22 years to get this bad, and probably sat directly out in the weaather for many of those years.

Thats good, it may have just been sticking a little not moving freely.

That sounds like a good choice, hope it gets you going.

Nut splitter is a good idea i have one and never think to try it, generally we dont think to try these things until we have already broken the nut off, but as a rule i always try something on muffler bolts that have never been removed 99 percent of the time they break.

Check the bendix to make sure it is working properly, you might pull the starter out and check it out to make sure all the parts are in place and and no slop in the engaging gear.
