I know this sounds too simple but if you have no visibly loose wires or faulty connections check to make SURE you have solid ground connections

I'm working on a friends 500 sportsman. the oil tank cracked as he was riding and of course lost all oil. The engine shut down but not due to seizure as it still turns over freely. I have replaced the oil tank and oil. I'm thinking that there is a sensor which shuts down the engine when starved of oil and something needs to be replaced or reset? Can anyone help?
