  1. Good Monday morning all! One of those beautiful days I wish i was retired to enjoy it outside on the toys
  2. Yeah, you saw those chipped teeth too eh? 🤪 I ordered a new 12T for it from JT, when it gets here i can use its diameter to fab my own guard, I was just curious if there was a better way to keep the chain proper or the best options for guarding. I can build the guard to replicate the ones they sell that are super close to the sprocket and chain. I figured I would also make it a safety cover for pants and such. This is the first chain drive toy Ive owned, My Yamaha and other suzuki are both shaft powered 😅 I also realized its missing the upper chain roller on the swing arm (learned this is a model H) and because the previous owner ran it like this he did some minor damage to the swing arm and probably threw the chain from it slapping like hell on decceleration.
  3. I have learned recently how hard the sprocket drive retainer is to source 😐 Has anyone found a replacement for these anywhere online or should I focus on salvage yards for one?
  4. Lake Orion, Its north of Detroit, South of Flint.
  5. Day 1 before rebuild
  6. Probation 🤣 Thats well put.
  7. I'm in the middle of repairing damage from the chain coming off of this from the previous owner. (I learned this is somewhat common on these for various reasons.) What are you guys using to either help keep the chain correct and on the sprocket or guarding your engine in the case that it comes off / breaks? Is there an upgraded guard that can bolt around the sprocket in replacement of the currently broken OEM alluminum?
  8. This was so helpful and thourough, thank you. I was able to determine not just my year but all kinds of other info about it.
  9. Opening up the head may seem intimidating at first, but there are plenty of videos and diagrams available on the internet to assist, and it isnt as bad as you might think. It also gives you a chance to go over the innards of these older machines and make sure the previous owners didnt abuse it too bad. It helps to take lots of pictures, use a cardborad box to punch your bolts into so you remember their order / placement, and have a clean work area so you can find things if dropped, etc.
  10. My name is Marty, I'm 36, married with 3 kids. I work as a Robot and Controls Software Engineer in the automation industry with a lot of mechanical and electrical background. I have 2 Suzuki LT230s, one is a 1985 230 Shaft, the other is a 1987 230 quadrunner. The shaft has been amazing since the day i bought it about 5 years ago. The quadrunner was picked up as a project, it had a previous electrical fire due to improper splicing by previous owner, It has a wiseco high comp piston in it and all the gaskets have been redone. Im currently crafting replacement wires for a new harness im building for it. I gave the 230 shaft to my 12 year old daughter and she loves it, it is such a great and reliable machine. Im currently looking for a repair manual so that she can learn how to do her own maintenance. I also built a 79cc predator powered quad for my 7 year old daughter from a blown up Temu quad i got for cheap. I look forward to meeting some of you and learning some along the way!
