  1. Hmm, I wanted an '87 IT250 dirtbike, but they were really unsafe, so we ended up with a very safe 1987 Yamaha Tri-z 250... Not quite sure of my parents logic on that one. After that, Polaris 250 Trailboss 2x4. There have been a whole lot between then and now, lol.
  2. Hey, not too sure, but is it the electric cable to the switch that activates the brake light? Just my .02 cents. I cant be positive without looking at the parts diagram, but its only what I can think of off the top of my head.
  3. Congrats, that is great, I guess it must be nice to be famous!
  4. Well, you might like a little less aggressive tire, the Bighorns are pretty stiff, but running a little less pressure in the tires might help that. Where do you find these deals? $2,800 is an awesome price for a King quad! I like them pretty good, and I felt they rode pretty smooth. I will have to agree with you, price-wise, Can-Am really is very proud of their product, but it is a damn good machine. I am lucky that I found a pretty good deal on my Outlander. But I have seen some near crazy prices for used ones. You are right, for the price of a new quad, you can get a pretty decent 4wd pickup, or jeep, then you get the bonus of windows and heat. Of course you lose the "fun" factor. All in all tho, it doesn't really matter what size or make of quad we ride, as long as we have a good time riding. I had more than my share of fun on a 250 Trailboss, and you could not believe the stupid things that can be done with a Diesel Polaris.
  5. It does sound like a great time, and that is one heck of a nice price for a Prairie! But you are right, the new IRS machines are really comfy, and who would complain about power steering? Pretty much, I am a Can-am guy, but all the different colors have some nice machines. Each manufacturer seems like their machine has a different quality that they are good at. But man they sure are proud of them when you go to buy a new one... I like the Maxxis Bighorn tires, they seem to hold up real good for the type of riding I do, but I don't think they will make the ride any smoother on your quad. Maybe some of the other guys on here could chime in about tire selection.
  6. 5 acres, 500, or 5000, it sure sounds like a good time either way. Especially when you can ride with some buddies. Those Prairies are pretty stout, if you have yours running right, it should stay that way. I had a 650, and a 700, and they had some serious miles, with a whole lot of beating on them. The 650 even got a lot of motocross riding in. I sure love those Prairies. I think they look better than the Brute Force, and I feel they were the first of the "high performance" 4wd quads.
  7. Thats great! Any time spent riding is quality time. I got a little riding in today too, just a couple hours of practice. It would be nice to have some people to ride with, but the neighbors were busy today. How big a place do you ride on? Between our farms, and the neighbors farms, we have about 3,500 acres, but only about 50-60 miles of trails. We could have more trails, but between work and farming, we don't really get a chance to make more, have a hard enough time just keeping the ones we have cleaned. Being as you are in Georgia, have you been to Durhamtown, in Union Point? I used to work there, a good long time ago. It was just about the most fun job I've had, always had plenty of people to ride with on the weekends. If you ever need a little help with your Prairie, give Mike Penland a shout, he is up in Rabun Gap, and he is about the friendliest guy you could meet.
  8. Hey Swampcat, It was Mike Penlands' quad, and he knows the ins and outs of getting speed out of a Can-am. His son Hoyt, (who passed away in 09') had it up to 95 before the race, when they were testing it. Epic racing also had an Outlander that was very modded, and it was supposed to be able to top 110. It had the front diff taken out, some serious long travel shocks, and more than a little "extras". I am hoping we have good luck this coming November, when we try it again. I am hoping that maybe for 2013 we can run Baja in a Commander. We both would like to give it a try.
  9. '06 Can-am 800 Outlander, somewhere north of La Paz Mexico, 92 MPH.
  10. Hey O.B. When I am not in the US, I live with my wife in South China, Guangxi province. Its really nice there, but the only bike I get to ride has pedals. Sure does good to keep me in shape tho. We are hoping that this year is the year her Visa will get approved and she can come here for a while. I told her that she could just swim, and she mentioned something about her foot, and my butt... not sure, maybe I lost something in the translation . Swampcat, thanks for the info, I will check into those places, I was just working down near Apalachin, just off 17. Maybe I will load up one Saturday and hit a few trails down that way. Everyone else, Thanks for the welcome!
  11. Howdy ya'll, I am just checking in to introduce myself, and try to track down some New Yorkers. I have been riding for a good long time now, started when I was around 10, on a Yamaha tri-z, and have been on just about every other color since then. For most of the last 15 years I lived in Georgia, and it is a world of difference compared to NY. For about 5 years I worked at Durhamtown Plantation in Union Point GA. That was the best job in the world, where else can you get paid to ride a quad every day? And the best part was that every weekend, a couple hundred "friends" would come ride with me. If anyone gets a chance, its always a good place to spend a weekend. Right now I am in Central NY but in the winter time I will return home overseas. I am riding a Can-am 800 Outlander, and we have around 1500 acres to ride on, but I'm hoping to find some other places and people to ride with. Because my quad is a loaner out of Ga, I don't think I can get it registered in NY and since finding new places is pretty difficult, I have been just making my own trails every evening after work. Between real work, and working on the family farm, I try to cut trail for an hour then ride for an hour every night. I usually return home in the fall, but this year I will be racing in the Baja 1000 again, so I won't be able to go back home to the rest of my family until after the race. So, pretty much, just looking to get in touch with some fellow NYers to see what the options are around here. Pretty much I prefer riding xc, I spent most of my life on sport quads, but I do like motocross too. Just not many people like having Utility quads hitting their tracks. Glad I found the site, lots of good info, and great folks seems like. Ya'll keep safe, and keep ridin'
