My boot on the drive shaft came off this weekend. When I tried to put it back on it appeared to be about 2" too large. Any explanations????

Also when the boot cam off, there was oil in the boot. Is this normal???

Thanks for your help.

jeez...did you get transmission fluid on it or something? That makes rubber expand like crazy. and it must have ripped to come off, correct? maybe it got stretched out when it ripped.

Busglinger, I did not get transmission fluid on the rubber unless that was what was inside the boot when it slipped off. As to know why or how it came off, I have not a clue. The rubber did not crack or bust. I did pressure wash the motor just before riding it the last time.

Since you mentioned the transmission fluid, if the boot is not suppose to have oil inside, then probably the transmission seal has gone bad and cause fluid to leak into the boot and that is how it got oil inside the boot. And possibly it is transmission fluid.

Thanks for your help.

Please, anyone else have any ideas, please advise.

Is there no one else that knows anything about this issues that can help me????????????????

there is no tranny fluid in the bike, just atv motor oil .... what you saw in the boot was old grease that was packed in there ... the same grease for the front/rear axle shafts ... you can probably get a "split" boot to put back on to avoid dismantling the drive-shaft ... whatever route you go, it needs to be sealed

Good morning, I am new to the forum. I'm 75 years old and love getting ATVs back to usable condition. I particularly like the 2006-2009 Arctic Cat 250 Utility. I currently own 6. The 2006 I am working on only has reverse and low gear. The "drive shaft" in the transmission is completely stripped where the high gear would mesh. Has anyone on here replaced the shaft. I'm told I have to split the case. I was hoping that someone on here could let me know how hard it will be. I already have it stripped down to where the shaft coming in from the clutch side is the only thing left. I was hoping I could just remove the driven clutch and drive it out from there. Directions say different. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

      Background,
This winter (Dec.) I was plowing and everything just died, just quit.  No lights, no pull start, No nothing.  I've had this problem before and I changed the voltage reg and it ran fine for over a year. Then this.  So I changed it again, thinking this was the same problem.  Tried to start it and a small pin hole in the CDI appeared with electrical smoke.
Months go by and I finally decide to just replace parts (I'm Horrible at electrical issues).  I changed the stator, new CDI, new Voltage reg, new starter solenoid, tested the starter (prefect), charged the battery.
Went to start it and the solenoid rapidly clicked.  All the dash lights on, headlights work.  Pull stared it and it fired right up no issues.  Looked into the rapidly clicking starter solenoid and it was not enough juice in the battery.  Took the battery completely out and hooked up a jump box to it turned the key, light on, everything looks good.  Pushed the starter button and it fired right up ran great.  Turned it off to test it again, Turned the key and nothing.  No dash lights nothing.  Took the jump box off and pulled started it.  Started it right up.  Re-hooked the jump box, still nothing.
      Any Ideas?
