  • Hi Everyone,
We purchased a 2012 TRX400X that was running fine for a couple of days, then starting having problems cranking. We changed the spark plug & it ran great for a day (just playing around our property). Next day it wouldn't crank for anything, tried jumping it, still wouldn't catch. Had battery tested, it was ok. It had about 1/2 tank of gas, so we filled it up. It will now crank, but won't idle without giving it gas. If you let it idle, it will pop once, then turn off. Should we start with the carb? Anyone one know of a step by step guide to this?
    I'm downloading this manual today.....https://www.tradebit.com/filedetail.php/279289626-2005-2014-trx400ex-trx400x-sportrax-service-repair
Our local shop is backed up for weeks! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

It sounds like plugged  jets in the  carb to me.   It's not uncommon  if it was sitting  for  a long time with  old gas  in the carb. A disassembly, good cleaning  and fresh gas  should fix  it.

Did you check the spark plug? Start there before tearing into the carb.

If it's black and all soot try burning it off with a lighter, put it back in a crank if it starts fine your mixture is too rich and your fowling the plug.

Hi all. I have a timberwolf 250 2nd that will not start.. I thought it was out of time bc the guy I got it from said it just quit on him. The tensioner had a nut welded to it and it was like2 teeth off. I installed new tensioner and chain and it still will not start. It has fire and it will not hit off brake cleaner. It has compression. Haven't put a gauge but I'm sure it will crank and run with what it has. I double checked my work and it's still in time. Spot on. Both valves move. I'm about to put a feeler gauge on them and I'll cone back but other than that any ideas?

      Hi all,
Looking for some help on a starter/bendix issue. Can Am outlander 450 2017. While cranking to start, the starter spins and engages into the ring gear. After a few seconds the bendix retracts while still spinning and there is no damaged teeth on the drive pulley.

My 1992 TRX00 recently stopped firing.  I understand this is a common problem. I have ordered an aftermarket CDI unit.    TJ

Hey all, new to the forum! I just bought a 1998 Kawasaki bayou 300, 4x4 not running. Initially I found no spark. Ended up playing with the plug wire (made sure plug top and wiring was touching) and got spark yesterday and the quad fired up off ether. Come to work on it today and now no spark again. Before I got spark and now today if I touch the plug after cranking I get shocked, and it will spark after I release the starter button. I was jumping the quad with a freshly charged car battery that has 12v while cranking. Cleaned out the kill switch and ignition button. All looks good. Purchased new plugs. They're are a lot of wires cut/ disconnected. But shouldn't matter if I got spark without them connected...
