OK, Removed starter from right side pretty easily. Starter spinning well, good torque.  Still have to remove left cover to get to gear.

I've looked at starters with gear in place for sale.  Also see one way bearings.  I don't have a diagram of the set up.  Which or both?

Thanks, Cavry

At the risk of sounding dumb, what is a torque limiter?

I'm wondering the same thing?  I know my kawasaki acts like a diesel- no acceleration, but tons of low end power

Finally!  I am back to a limited .degree.  Family member medical condition is under control. I have the bayou running well after 3 days of effort getting everything back together and locating a few missing bolts

The torque limiter is inside the left alternator housing on the end of the starter shaft. I'm not exactly sure of the mechanical function and I haven't cut one apart yet to see.

I'll be in and out of here for a while. I am facing lumbar spinal surgery. 2 vertebrae are deteriorated and are misaligned badly and there is no disc between 4, all bone on bone.  Not sure what the future holds. No complaints, and I'll survive well, it just may take a while.

Good luck with your surgery!

OK, information I found on Utube says the Torque Limiter is like a one-way ratchet to prevent backfires from stripping the splines on the starter shaft.

      Hi all,
Looking for some help on a starter/bendix issue. Can Am outlander 450 2017. While cranking to start, the starter spins and engages into the ring gear. After a few seconds the bendix retracts while still spinning and there is no damaged teeth on the drive pulley.

I got a couple yamaha moto 4 225cc quads. The guy gave me several old starters with them. I see kits are available to rebuild them but does anyone have tips or tricks for doing it? I haven't rebuild a starter before so im not sure what to look out for.

I have a 1997 Yamaha Big Bear 350 4x4. It used to start right up. Then all of a sudden it wouldn't crank. I have a schematic for it so I started tracing the problem. I had no power at the starter solenoid. According to the schematic the power comes from the neutral switch and through the starter circuit cut out relay. I cannot locate the cut out relay on this machine.. If I apply power to the relay it will crank with the start button.
The neutral switch is hard to get to with all the brackets on this thing. I did find out from all my research that if I apply the rear brake lever it will start.
Does anybody know if the cut out relay exists and where it might be found?

Any body have a part number for replacing the safety interlock on the left brake so you can start the engine with the brake handle pulled and in gear
or how to bypass this function so you can start in gear
      thanks ahead
