Sounds like the fuel line or gas valve at the bottom of the tank has a restriction.

I would take the fuel line off of the carb and put it in a can of some sort and open the valve make sure there is good flow.

If that is not the case then it would be inside the carburetor like a stuck float or something inside one of the jets.

Thats easy enough to take apart and clean out.

Was the bike sitting at all for a bit ?

Yes setting for about a year. I would start it once in a while and it starts right up. Starting riding it and it ran good for about a mile then die. If it sits for awhile it will start again but only for a short time. Thanks for the info. I took the fuel pump off but don't really think that is the problem. I turned gas  on and no gas in line, put it on reserve and had a full steam. That's the part I don't understand.

So I would drain the fuel out and take that gas valve off of the tank.  You can take it apart , usually a few screws that hold the thing together The main fuel port inside that patcock valve is prob clogged.

Be carfeull not to damage the rubber gasket inside.

I would also clean the carb as well. I have a feeling that float is not moving freely.

Might as well do it now while your at it!

Good luck!

Has anyone had a suzuki 230 quad lock the engine up?  Its a well maintained bike, it locked up when my son was riding it. Pulled the plug, it has connected with the piston. I'm thinking the con rod let go.  I don't have a service manual.  Does the engine need to come out to check further?

I am new to this site. I have a 1987 Suzuki LT230S Quadsport I think. Is there a difference between quadsport and quadrunner?

My name says it all. I have a '03 Honda Sporttrax 400EX with a new aftermarket carb on it that seems to be having issues. I can start it but it idles really rough and when I give it throttle it just kills the engine. I have tried adjusting the idle screw but to no avail. I am in the San Diego Ca area.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated. I would also like to get an owners manual for the thing too but can't seem to find a downloadable one.

So I’ve got a 2000 Honda 400ex absolutely love it!! I’ve had it for about a month, I ride with bruteforce 750’s, outlander 850’s and 1000 sxs’s and I was thinking of getting a trx450r carb and a full hmf exhaust. And probably doing the air box mod too, how much power would this give my 400? Just a little different or a big difference? Cuz if it’s not much of a different I’ll just stick with my dg slip on..... thanks!

I have a 1990 Bayou 220 that runs pretty well for it's age--needs a new muffler, but sounds tough.    Have had to start with a pull cord since I got it, and recently started troubleshooting the start button.  Finding a lot of information on this issue in the forum, but haven't been able to chase it down yet.  Got a new battery, new starter solenoid, and going to replace the starter relay this week, but not convinced that's going to do the trick, since I can't get the neutral light on when turning the key on.  I can start it by jumping the solenoid, but the 2 black wires to the relay do not activate the starter.  Bad ground or a short somewhere?  Is there a good way to just test the ground?
