95 500l , new to Polaris!

Hey folks, just was given a 95 400l 2x4. After spending about 400$ to get it running and riding  I’m just wondering if there’s anything I need to know about this thing. The oil injection appears to be working, it starts up first crank but needs a little help to stay running the first couple minutes. It runs well and doesn’t appear to have any leaks anywhere, the oil injection appears to be working as well. Never owned a Polaris or a 2stroke bike before!

Wow cool find in such great shape.   The older bikes usually take a little longer to warm up. So I would not worry about that.  It’s normal.  Once she gets going she runs good like you said.   Try to keep it in tact and running good.  Sweet bike.

Thanks Frank, the previous owner did a bunch of performance modifications to it, an aftermarket reed, and carb, bigger rear sprocket, aftermarket exhaust, and shocks. Also included all of the original parts, I did also replace the belt and chain as well as put a stock size sprocket back on

Keep a very close eye on the counter balance gear case. It only holds about a half a cup of oil that is responsible for lubing not only the counter balance gears but also the water pump and oil injector. The gear case is on the Mag side of the engine.Newer models have a short dipstick on the rear portion of the engine. Older models have a oil level plug on the front. I think the manual recommends 10w-30 or 10w-40. Probably the most overlooked area on these engines that can end up causing the most damage. Were all used to EFI these days,just turn the key and its running from dead cold. Engines with carburetors take a few minutes to warm up.  Those are great engines though. Excellent power to weight ratio. Make sure the air box isn't cracked either.They were known for cracking and letting dirt bypass the air filter.

Hey guys just getting to ride this thing, looked all over including the online manua and don’t know what gas to put into it, ethanol free, 87, 89, 93?

      I am new to this forum and hope that someone out there can help me, I have an early Suzuki King Quad 300 (280cc) which starts intstantly every time but at about half revs or there abouts it starts spluttering and will not rev any higher, this fault is present whether choke is applied or not, some one suggested that silencer maybe be clogged so removed baffle but no improvement have removed carb and stripped 3 times but still no joy.
      Any ideas would be most welcome.

      Just picked an '03 Bayou 300 2WD.  It runs ok, needs a little help though. Maybe someone can answer some questions for me.
      1. The choke "off" position is the lever all the way right, correct?
      2. The choke seems mechanically... funky. It has a little valve clamp around the rubber boot where it goes into the carb, seems kind of janky, I don't think there's typically a valve clamp on that part? The engine seems like its running really rich, smoking a bit, so I wonder if I can just completely remove the choke cable to see if that's part of the issue? But I don't fully understand the choke needle setup. Is "choked" when the needle is being pushed in, or pulled out? Like it I chopped the cable just outside the rubber boot by the carb, would I be permanently choking it or permanently unchoking it.
      3. I've read that I can tweak the air/fuel screw and maybe fix the rich mix. Where is that even located, and if it's behind a cap that I have to drill out... where is that?

      Hi, Name is Dave, I am new to the site. I have UTV 2018 Textron Stampede... cant get the 4 wheel drive to work.
      I recently had blown out the fuse for the acc... while hooking up my turn signals,,, and ever since then
      4 wheel drive doesn't work, I can lock in the rear,,, while having the key on motor off,, I can hear the clicking
      sound,, which sounds like a relay in the rear... but when I switch to 4 wheel drive, I hear nothing. shows up on
      the dash that its working, anyone can help would be greatly appreciated. All Fuses and relays under hood are
      good, and under rear seat. Thanks  Dave

      wife's quad is to be picked up sat. morning,then off to tire shop to have new tires put on,I'm thinking maybe a short blast up to leota trail on Sunday.
