Hi guys I have a 2003 Arctic 250 4X4 it starts idles and runs great for about 10 min. then it spits and sputters and dies but it starts right up like nothing happened idles good till you give gas and it does it again let off the gas and it's idling great again this goes on for about 15 to 20 min. and then it takes off runs good all day like nothing was wrong.

I cleaned the carburetor it looked like a new one inside found a little gunk in one orifice, new air filter no crimped lines air line to tank good I did put a meter on the battery idling it said 16.5 V that's high I think would a voltage regulator cause this?

Suzuki shop wanted to sale me a stator for $556.00 but said it could be something else also thought I'd see what you guys say about it

Thanks

Irregular voltage can sometimes cause havoc on the cdi so it could be.  As long as your sure the carburetor is properly cleaned and the fuel line going from the tank to the carb is good then I would focus on that voltage right now.

That’s pretty high for a voltage reading. Should be no more then 14.5 so I would guess it’s the regulator but I would do a little testing before you buy or order anything.  That stator can be purchased a lot cheaper elsewhere also.

Download the manual and get a tester, start doing some of the standard tests on the regulator and stator and go from there.   If you need any help with that testing let us know.

16.5 volts is too high, that would be the regulator going bad. A quick test is when its not running right to turn on all your headlights, if it runs better, it is voltage related.

Should not run more then 14.5 volts , service manual can be found here:

having an issue with the unit when running under a load up a hill or in high gear, seems like the belt is slipping, there is a clapping sound coming from the primary clutch like it releases and snaps back in. i don't think I should have a noise like that. this is a friends unit and he has already replaced the primary twice with the same result.
not sure where to look next

I see quite a few ads for that  Tribotex additive. It's kind of expensive, has anyone used it it their ATV or any other vehicle?

My uncle bought a Baja 250, 2006. Knew there was no spark since the get go. He don't know anything about quads so is getting me to help him try to get it running...

battery is bad so I connected battery charger to it to crank it over , cranks over well , but no spark ....
Lights and everything work fine , but with each crank over using the e start switch , the display reads 999 888 777 666 ... Right down to 000 and repeats itself .

He managed to get a parts bike , I changed over the CDI and the coil and the stator from the parts bike and there was another black box by the voltage regulator I changed over ... I used my multimeter to confirm as much as I could works , it's hard without knowing which wires are which , and I cannot find any diagrams online for this bike ?

Do you think it could be the Killswitch? There's so many wires coming from there I don't know where to start . Also I should mention it appears the fan on the front of the bike has been taken off (the wires have been cut too )

If this bike sparked it would run . The previous owner said he parked it one day and it just wouldn't start after.
