Looking for advice on what to try next I bought this quad and it’s has spark and fuel but won’t stay running only fires when I hold the starter button in even when spraying gas into the carb it still dies right away oil was milky white so I was thinking it maybe went under water 150 psi compression so I might be wrong but not a head gasket I am stuck Cause it should stay running with the straight gas through the carb so what should I try

Yes i did I just don’t understand why it won’t stay running if I am spraying gas directly into the carb When holding the starter in you could hear it start and  fire and rev up but when I let go of the starter button it just dies no matter how much gas i spray in

I think it is I think I am going to just tear the engine out and tear it apart I am thinking someone before me put something together wrong cause timing from the mark and valves seem right it should fire I have gas spark and great compression at least 150 psi

That sounds like an electrical problem really rather than a mechanical problem.. I sure wouldn't be pulling it apart..

Have you pulled the sparkplug out after it's tried to start and looked to see whether it's wet or dry ?

I'm guessing that the starter circuit's somehow sending power into the bikes electrical system while you are holding the button in, then it's loosing electrical power when you let the start button off.. Do you have a wiring diagram ?

Do you have a timing light ? If you connect that up and watch whether it stops flashing as soon as you let your finger off the button, that would confirm my theory.

Well since the cdi sparks when it wants to I doubt it's faulty.

In the smaller models there's a neutral relay that has wires going into it from the neutral and reverse lights and the kill switch and the starter button... If that thing has that relay I'd be checking it out and it's earth wire..  I see in the manual I have here for a 300 that there's also a diode in the neutral circuit.. that might be a suspect too.. You really need a workshop manual and then start tracing the power through one wire at a time going to the cdi unit. Check the neutral switch, neutral diode and neutral relay..  I reckon the problem will be in there somewhere..If your 500 is like the 300.

I had a sudden loss of spark in my 1988 Suzuki LT300E quadrunner and we tried a new plug but still no spark. Then we checked the boot and there was no issues with it. I then took off the coil as I was going to get a resistance reading with a multimeter however I cannot find anywhere what the readings should be. The coil is a Mitsubishi F6T 411. Any help would be appreciated.

Oil is getting in the air box from crankcase vent tube, I put the two hoses that go to the air box together then something started to smoke on the front of the engine. There is a filter? In the line I blew that out.

      Hey everybody,

My proficiency is with Hondas and Yamahas make me see RED!

This bike is my brother in law's, it has 1199 miles on it and went from running great to dead with no start. Every once and a while it will start and sputter for 2 seconds. It is extremely sporadic when it fires but never runs for longer than 3 seconds.

      Here is where we sit:
      Brand New Fully Charged battery
Carb was cleaned with air hose and carb cleaner then into the ultrasonic cleaner with Aircraft aluminum cleaner
New Shindy Carb kit (made in Japan version)
Cleaned out petcock and gas tank
      New 93 Non Ethanol Gas
      New Spark Plug

It gets a spark through the spark test light every time
      Bluish white spark
When holding the spark plug 1/4" - 3/8" away from head it will jump and spark to the head
      Good Compression

      Here are the readings:

Pickup Coil 519 Ohms (range 459-561)
Charging Coil 266 Ohms (range 270-330)
      Lighting Coil 0.700 (range 0.702-0.858)
Spark plug Cap 10.58 Ohms (10kohms
Ignition Coil Primary Coil 0.5 ohms (range 0.18-0.28 ohms)
Ignition Coil Secondary Coil 8.20 kOhms (range 6.32-9.48 kOhms)

Would y'all think stator and pick up coil, rectifier or CDI are the culprit?

      Greetings,
Have a 88 LT80 that been sitting for a couple years. Bought a new piston, cylinder and head. Installed these, rolled it over and it quickly locks up.  Took carb apart. It was full of what appears to be 2 cycle oil. Cleaned it, but keeps locking up and 2 cycle oil continues to seap from exhaust port.  When i installed new cylinder, I noticed crankcase was full of oil.  I'm now wondering if that oil is what's getting sucked up into cylinder.  Should there be no oil in crankcase?  If that the case, how is crank and rod lubricated?  Sorry, never worked on a 2 stroke. Thanks!
