2005 Yamaha Kodiak 450 noise from clutch

Just bought the atv, sounds like there’s sand in a bearing near the clutch! Any ideas?

It's likely that the one way bearing that's part of the centrifugal clutch has failed. To check it out the cvt clutches have to be removed first. 

There is a cover in behind them that gets removed to access the cf clutch system (that runs in engine oil btw).

I kinda figured that’s what it was, is there a special puller to get the cvt clutch off?

I don't believe a puller is needed, just use an impact wrench to get the nut off. You will need a gasket if that cover is removed.

What i would do is either pull the cover and pull the belt off of it and run it just to make sure that the noise is actually coming from the clutch itself. If the noise is still there id pull the clutch and check out the rollers in it.

And no sir theres not a special tool thats needed to remove that clutch its just a 22mm socket and then it pulls right off.

Not a problem bud i just got the gears in that i ordered and 2 of them are different so hopefully i can get it figured out.

So I got all the clutch side apart and swapped it all with good known parts and still makes the noise! Must be coming from in the transmission!
