My guess is a plugged low speed (aka pilot) jet. It's very small and needs to be removed, cleaned with a strong carb cleaning chemical & hit with compressed air. Replacing them is sometimes the best bet.

My guess as well ! Sometimes they are hidden and easy to overlook when cleaning,  Which carb OEM or aftermarket. The only thing I like to do also is take the emulsion tube out that runs from Venturi to main jet, they get dirty, if it won't come out use something like Berryman carb cleaner in an ultrasonic for about 20 minutes that should clean it well enough.

You might have an air/vacuum leak between the engine and the carby..  If it's a rubber manifold the carby fits into with a hose clamp check the rubber for splits. If it's a metal manifold there will be an "O" ring between it and the carby.. check it's still there and not old and flattened.

Also check any breather hoses are on the right places.

Guys, I've got a 1999 Honda Foreman 450S.  It runs great, but smokes out the exhaust after startup until it warms up.  I'm thinking the valve seals are leaking.  I was wondering if there is a way to replace them without removing the head or if there's an oil additive that will recondition the rubber seals.  Any advice?

I picked up this ATV that had no spark. The previous owner said he was driving it and it died and would not start. He discovered it had no spark. He replaced the CDI and the coil with no luck. He got tired of it and I bought it. I replaced the stater and now it has strong spark. Now, it starts for a second or two then dies. It will not stay running. I have checked the timing and it is spot on. The valves are adjusted correctly. I see no warn issues with the cam. I put the original CDI and coil back on it. Same problem exists. Compression is at 65 psi (has decompression mechanism),
I took off the muffler in case the issue was clogged pipes. No change. I replaced the spark plug. No change. The carb was an aftermarket so I put a Niche carb on with no change. I bypassed the fuel pump and that did nothing to solve the problem.
I don't know if this is a carb issue or an ignition issue. I am looking around locally for an OEM carb to try out but not sure that will fix the problem.
Can anyone help me solve this problem. I am running out of ideas.
      Thank you for your time
      Bill

I’m having a issue with my choke when its on it runs fine when I cut the choke off the atv cuts off went to take the carburetor off and saw the choke plunger broke at the nut to screw it in could this be my issue? Do I just need to buy a plunger kit and put it on? I took the carburetor off and cleaned both jets anyway just to make sure and it’s still having issues staying on

Hey all, been a while since my last post and can't find anything exactly like I'm experiencing.
I have a 1996 Polaris Xplorer 300 and have fuel consistently (based on my opinion) drip from the overflow tube attached to the bottom of the carb. When parked and the fuel petcock turned on, it does not leak. However, once its running, it drips almost 1 drop per second. But only at idle. Once rpm's increase it doesn't drip.
I've cleaned the carb, checked the float per service manual, and the rubber needle tip doesn't appear to be worn.
Is this dripping normal? I really dont feel it should be. Or, do I need to replace the needle despite how I feel it looks.
      Any help would be appreciated!
      Thanks!

I hadn't driven my Kodiak for a two months, and since it was low on fuel, the first thing I did was filled it up to maybe 7/8 full. Getting ready to start it, I rotated the fuel selector switch to "on" and within seconds I smelled and saw fuel dripping onto the floor. I quickly turned it off and the fuel gradually stopped - I can repeat this.
The fuel is flowing from the hose that is connected to the bottom of the carb, and routes around to the left side toward the wheel well. Any idea what's going on here? It ran fine the last time I had it out.
      Thanks...
