I think first i would try adjusting the clutch and see if that helps, and if the oil hasnt been changed in a while might try that, sometimes oil get contaminated and looses its viscosity.

Mech you are right it is CVT. I guess when i hear hard shifting i think of actually manual shifting. Still i would change the oil and check the CVT system for proper operation , and definately idle speed, like Mech suggested.

Oh yeah me too mate. I always think of the foot shift first off when I see shifting problems, and I forget which bike it is we are talking about sometimes when I'm in several threads.. haha.

Clean primary clutch "one way bearing" pin+spring unit = That is between plate's...  When it start to stuck = You loose "neutral".. It will get really hard to "shift"..

I'm working with brp stuff ;)

Transmission oil would not stuck chance really easy...

I have this exact same problem on my2012  800r xmr and after checking everything over I determined the the inner sheave bushing on the secondary was worn out. This will cause the helix to wear and eventually break. These 2 parts are available aftermarket.   This will fix your hard shift problem.

I just bought a 1984 Suzuki LT185 ATV and am looking for the OWNER’S manual. ( not a service manual)
I contacted Suzuki Canada but they have no paper or digital copies in their archives.
Does anyone possibly have a digital copy they’d be willing to share?

      Hello
My son scored a free Moto4 - late 80s from the looks of it. I don't know anything else about its history as the owner wasn't there when i picked it up. Can't see the VIN number as its a bit rusty.  He cleaned the carb and then with some either it started and still starts first pull.  Its runs really nice - not rattles etc.  Goes forwards well and the brakes work fine so it looks like a keeper, However, we have only managed to get it into reverse once.
      1) it won't shift down into what seems like where first would be - 2nd and upwards only. The changes between gears is fine.  No crunching or missed gears - just no first gear.  2nd gears appears to be as low as it will go
      2) the clutch - when you hold the gear lever up or down works (only the second ATV we have had.  Other is a Quadrunner which doesn't have this feature)
      3) no neutral light - will start when no in neutral - should it do that?
      4) the one time we did get it into reverse the neutral and then the red (reverse) lights worked. Swapped easy between forward and reverse - when it went into second, it didn't return to first or neutral
      5) checked the clutch adjust on the RHS - seemed fine to me.  When i turned the screw back 1/8 it was where it was to start with.  Clutch doesn't slip.  The bike will move forward is all gears.

      Any help would be appreciated

      Thanks

I rebuilt the carb on said machine. When I hook up the auxiliary gas tank it runs fine and everything is cool. When I put the fuel tank on and hooked up the lines, it completely flooded the cylinder and even about an inch of fuel in the air box. I'm pretty sure that it comes from the little hose on the petcock and hooks to the top of the carb. WTH is that even for? I mean the thing runs fine on the auxiliary tank, so idk And on the petcock when it's in the "on" position, I get no fuel. The petcock from the bike I took it apart and checked out how it operates. The sharpie marks indicate how it really works. Now the other petcock w/o the sharpie marks is an old one that was leaking that I removed from a Polaris quad. It's exactly the same thing, except the small hose and nipple have been removed. I'm so confused, LOL

I'm working on a 2002 Polaris Sportsman 400 with shift indicator problems. The indicator panel only will show Neutral and Reverse. If it's in High or Low, the indicator will show "R".
I have replaced the three position indicator switch on the transmission. There is also a two position switch on the tranny that I didn't replace. If anyone is familiar with this problem, please let me know what I need to do. Any help is greatly appreciated!
