2005 500 Scrambler having trouble identifying timing mark

I'm having trouble identifying Mark. I know where the mark is in the Stator cover. Is the T at about, the 12 o'clock position in this photo? I've got to buy another Stator cover as the one I have has a hole at the bottom of it. Due to failing eyes, I have a lot of trouble anymore. Thanks! 🙂

I think you need to clean the rust off. In the two manuals I looked in it says the timing mark is a single small groove/line. It looks like a small chisel mark in the flywheel. There are other ignition advance marks but they are one long mark with a short mark either side.

I think I found it. I'm going to have to fill that in with some white fingernail polish. I'll never see it through that little hole if I don't lol!  It's on top to the right of the starter.

Yes the timing hole is rathar difficult, a bolt comes out so you can see the timing mark down through the bolt hole, a little small, would have been better if it was a larger hole to look down in. I was looking at your photo i see the T, i would have expected to see an F not far from the T but didnt see one on the flywheel, I do know with the flywheel removed you can see a small line next to the crank shaft for timing, but that for people who are going deeper into the engine than you are.

You dont have to just to check the timing, if you plan on going deeper into the engine to replace the chain or something else you would. To get it at top dead center you will see your T in the inspection hole on your recoil starter cover, it will be at about two O clock, with the crank key pointing toward the cam gear. From what i remember of this engine on the cam chain there are 3 silver links, there are two that line to marks on the cam gear and there is one that line to a mark on the case next to the crankshaft. These are just there for initial installing of the cam chain, to get timing right, they dont stay in that position. So if you pull the cover and they are not where they are supposed to be dont get alarmed.

Cannot find out why 12 vdc  4 (4) commutator starter motor has no power. It will run full speed without load. But with any load will not turn. Repaired broken brush holder and insulated an internal wire to magnet that was bare and rubbing. cleaned commutator segments. Ohm readings while slowly rotating commutator was 1 ohm.   When attempting to run  with load it will not turn and Bat vdc only pulls down to12vdc. Cannot find an internal wiring schematic.  I can buy a rebuild kit ~$35 but WTH?

Hey all, BruinBeater here.  Just joined up from the Pittsburgh, PA area.
Got a Polaris Sportsman 1000 and a 570 in the garage that don't get ridden quite enough but looking forward to a family trip this fall.
I'm the unofficial mechanic of the extended family.  In the past month or so I've replaced a transmission in a Chevy Silverado, rust repair on a Chevy Malibu, electrical repair on a Subaru Crosstrek, overheating issue solved on a Can Am Commander, and right now I have a pair of Grizzly and a Bruin 350 in the garage.  Both have a no start condition and have been sitting for 2+ years.

I have replaced the cracked stator cover on my non-running 2006 LT-F400F that I purchased recently, checked all the shafts vs the service manual and pics and advice here.  I replaced missing gears, bushings and washers, made sure that truth marks were all aligned properly, that the shift cam springs felt like they returned properly, etc.  IAfter installing the new stator cover I checked the transfer lever for proper movement from L-H-R and then cranked it up.  Happily, it runs and changes gears well in L,  but it will not shift into H or R for anything.  I have opened it back up and am going back through it looking for the missing puzzle piece(s) but how can I best check that I have everything right this time before buttoning it back up?

I rebuilt the top end on my 2007 Honda Trx500fe. It ran fine right after the rebuilt. But now when I try to crank it it blows Bach through the carburetor. I held my hand over the opening for the intake air and it blew gas back on my hand. Can figure out what happened all of a sudden. It was cranking and was able to ride it running through all the gears. Now can get it to crank just blowing gas back to the air filter. Need help again. Starting to think I should have walked away from this one.
