I am looking for a new 08 or 09 ATV but I am not sure which one I want. I just got rid of my 2004 YFZ 450 and I have looked at the Can Am DS 450 MX and I dont know if I would want to go with a Can Am 450 or a KTM 450. Please help me out with your experience on the two of them and which one you think would be best to get.

Thank you

KTM is pretty much the best 450 made.

comes with Ohlins. best shocks made pretty much.

most powerful, light, good tires, everything you could ever want in a quad..RACE READY

the DS is a very nice quad also, but everything on the KTM beats it.

i would recommend the KTM 450XC over the 450MX,

the 450xc comes with the ohlins, i dont thing the MX does. and the XC is lighter.

but if you just go to the track for fun and do trails and stuff. i would get the 525.

ummm no, get your facts straight. the 450sx completly kills the 450xc! unless of course your a xc rider.

the SX's displacement is 2cc's higher(449) than the 450xc(447) and the SX's shocks are also better than the ohlins on the XC's. the WP shocks on 450sx features high and low speed compression adjustment while the ohlins on the 450xc does not. the SX also comes with 8 inch rear beadlocks. this link should set you straight on the both ktm quads specs.

2009 KTM 450SX and 505SX vs. 450 and 525 XC ATV's Specifications

but you cant go wrong with either. if i had a choice i would take the 450sx by far!

Depending on the riding you're gonna do. Come to my trails with a 50" quad and lets race. You WILL either A. lose a front tire(rip it off on a tree, I saw an LTR do it.) B. bend a Tie Rod(I've done it)or C. lose because you have to be too careful between the trees. So for me the SX would be a ridiculous choice.

in my opinion, the KTM comes with the best set up, as far as having to change out parts for aftermarket stuff, but I do think the KTM is a little more expensive, for some reason my computer's not letting me pull the price up on it...

but....like bot said, what quad and set you you get depends on the type of riding you do...Me, being a harescramble racer, would not go out and by the KTM sx model...I'd choose the XC model....on another note, I rode with both a KTM 450xc and a Can Am DS450 this race season, actually two ktms and one can am....the one KTM was good, while the other, which was the same exact year and model had more trouble, it seemed like it was always in the shop getting fixed...the Can Am did great all season until the very last race when they had an electrical problem...I think it was the EFI...so either way, you could be possibly prone to mechanical problems...but you'll have that with any quad, new or used.

Let us know what you choose!!

does anyone know the price difference in the KTM 450 and the Can Am 450? i know the price for the Can Am but i dont know the price of the KTM. i am looking for a quad i can take to the track to race but also use to mess around with in the sand mines by my house. any more ideas? im starting to lean more towards the KTM but still not completely sure.

i would say both the KTM and the Can Am kick as*. they are both set up pretty good stock. i think im goin to go with the Can Am cuz i know a lot of people at the barneys dealer in brandon, fl and they dont have KTM there. my buddy and i are also starting a race team and barneys has agreed to help out with prices on parts and any repairs we will need so i think the Can Am is probably the best choice for me. if not the Can Am, which do yall like most for the 450s as far as Can Am, kawasaki, honda, and suzuki?

It is dominating mx racing right now but Can Am is coming on. I haven't ridden either but I like the Suzuki's looks and I love my Suzuki. I would like to ride the Can Am. I would have at a race but it was raining and I didn't want to go through everything I would have had to to ride.

if i was to buy one to race i would buy the honda.

reliable, WAY moddable, cheap.

all great reasons to go there.

wahhhh?!?! by the time you make the honda as race ready as the ktm sx models you have already spent

6000 on the quad

and 8,000-10,000 on bolt on items.

total 14,000-16,000

compared to the ktm price tag of 12,000.

besides orange is much cooler than plain ole red

Hi, I have been around everything with a motor since I was little, and finally purchased more to get my husband, and kids involved. I have 4 quads I will be searching around for information on. I have two 2002 Suzuki LT80K quads, a 1997 Yamaha Timberwolf 250, and a 1996 Kawasaki Bayou 220. I have had different ones throughout the years, and plan on buying another Yamaha Banshee. I plan on trying to learn more about all of them, so I can customize some of them. I know nothing about them besides how to race them, my dad always took care of the rest, but figured it was time for me to learn.

      Hello All
I'm kinda new to ATVs. I just bought a 1987 Suzuki quad runner 230 Dual Range. I'm having a problem finding info on it. It's very clean, only 2.800 miles. The front wheels are only 30 in.center to center. I was thinking about adding wheel spacers to give it more stability. I realize the added stress on ball joints and bearings. I'm wondering if there are any other concerns? Any input is greatly appreciated!

Does anyone have a recommendation of a really Heavy Duty ATV cover. I have bought several and they do keep the water off somewhat, but they are very thin and do not contour with the shape very well and water pools up in the rack louvers. I think i may be looking for a heavy canvas one, if anyone has a recommendation it would be greatly appreciated.
