2001 Polaris Sportsman 90

A quick question.

My sons 2001 sportsman 90 does not like to start after it has been sitting for about 2 weeks.

I have to crank it a large number of times before it will start up.

Any suggestions on what I can do so it will start up easier?

Everything seems connected correctly and nothing seems loose, I have not pulled the plug as of yet. It is on the to do list.. It runs great once it does start and then I can stop and start it repeatedly with no issue. It's just a bit frustrating with my son waiting to ride and the #$^%@ thing won't start.. :aargh:

The two times I have had issues once it was warm and once it was cold, but I was inside in the garage and the machine was warm when I tried to start it. I will pull the plug when I can find a few free minutes at home.

PULL THE PLUG!!!!!! LOL!!!!

Yea,,,,Check the plug.....Ill bet it is Fouled.....Also,,,,I hope you are Draining your Carb Bowl if you let it sit that long.....If you are keeping mixed Fuel in your Tank.....And letting it sit that long between Starts.....You might want to Give the Bike a Shake or Two before opening the Fuel Petcock.....:yes:

Well pulled the plug yesterday, it was relatively clean and gapped correctly. The only thing I noticed was that is was not that tightly screwed in. I brushed it clean and put it back in and of course it started right up. We will see how it does... I suppose I just need to get it out and have my son exercise it more :)

      I am unable to find a wiring diagram for this UTV.  When I turn the switch to on, the contractor does not engage.  The Brake pressure switch and the parking brake switches work correctly. What else should I be looking for?  All of the diagrams I have found are for newer models and the wire color coding is different.

      99 Bear tracker no neutral or reverse light or start button

      Just getting into this issue really. Been replacing solenoids but now I'd like to track down the problem. This time I'm not getting neutral/reverse lights or start button. Was on a creek ride when it started doing this recently. It cranks by arcing the solenoid and gives me no light or start button but if I crank with the pull cord....the neutral light and the button work. Turn it off and try to crank with the key and nothing. I'm looking into the safety switch issue tomorrow and re charging the battery. Just figured this was odd enough of a problem that you guys might be familiar. Thanks

      Bell Crank Orentation 2000 Polaris Scrambler 400 2x4

      Does anyone know  the orientation of the bell crank for scrambler 400 2x4 it was not hooked up when I bought quad the way  i put it high goes into reverse and vise versa I flipped it 180 but that put  the shift rod at big angle and it just kinda grinds into gears so dnt think that is right either pretty sure it has to be the exact orientation and the rod adjusted accordingly but I cant seem to find it anyone knows please help

      Hi all.  New to the forum & quads.  Seems like a great place full of info.
      I just recently picked up a 2005 Suzuki KingQuad LTA700.  I need a battery.  I've been reading up on conventional vs AGM types.  I have a Royal Distributing and Canadian Tire.  RD has 2 types avail for my year/Model a battery YTX16-BS CRANK $75, and BATTERY YTX20CH-BS YUASA $140.  Neither of these is the type from the manual FTZ16-BS.
      from what I can tell... I think the only difference is the capacity with the $75 unit rated at 14 AH/10HR and the $140 unit rated at 18 AH/10HR ... which is the rating in the manual for the FTZ16-BS.  How much does this make a difference for nearly x2 the cost?
      And about the models/type numbers.... what is important to know ... they all end in "-BS" but are the other details relevant or just manufacturer naming?
