For starters, I'm not a mechanic, but due to economic times I've been forced to repair my own ATV. My clutch had been slipping for some time, so I bought a service manual and ordered new parts. I put in the new clutch plates and reinstalled just the way it came apart. Now my Big Bear won't even move at all. I put 10WX30 in and then changed to 20WX50 with the same results thinking it was the oil. The oil isn't synthetic. Any help would be appreciated.

It is possible that something is keeping the pressure plate from applying adequate pressure to engage the clutch, could be the push rod hanging up, the springs may not be tightened enough. If it is the 2wd model, then things are a little different, make sure you got the correct clutch for your machine and make sure the you have the same mumber of friction discs and plates. If you have all the right stuff, I would start backtracking through the steps you took putting the machine back together and inspect the clutch components. You should be able to identify the problem when you come across it. It also looks like there are two clutches in that machine, one centrufugal clutch and one friction disc type. The problem could be with either one, check them both for proper operation. I would stronly recommend buying a repair manual if you don't have one already.

I recently read an article about restoring or at least improving the looks of faded and discolored plastic body parts. In the article it suggested using a 50/50 mixture of boiled linseed oil and paint thinner. You mix it up and apply it with a brush or rag to rub it in and remove the oxidation. I curious to find out if anyone has had experience with doing this and what was their short/long term results of doing so. I would hate to try it and find out that a few weeks/months down the road my plastic body parts self destruct.

Hi, I have been around everything with a motor since I was little, and finally purchased more to get my husband, and kids involved. I have 4 quads I will be searching around for information on. I have two 2002 Suzuki LT80K quads, a 1997 Yamaha Timberwolf 250, and a 1996 Kawasaki Bayou 220. I have had different ones throughout the years, and plan on buying another Yamaha Banshee. I plan on trying to learn more about all of them, so I can customize some of them. I know nothing about them besides how to race them, my dad always took care of the rest, but figured it was time for me to learn.

      Hello All
I'm kinda new to ATVs. I just bought a 1987 Suzuki quad runner 230 Dual Range. I'm having a problem finding info on it. It's very clean, only 2.800 miles. The front wheels are only 30 in.center to center. I was thinking about adding wheel spacers to give it more stability. I realize the added stress on ball joints and bearings. I'm wondering if there are any other concerns? Any input is greatly appreciated!

I'm trying to help a buddy out with his bike (he's not really on the internet or familiar with these forums) and I'll admit that I am not super familiar with the transmission and clutches in these bikes. I owned a Brute a few years ago, but never had an issue like this that I had to troubleshoot.
So basically my buddy bought a group lot of 650's to build one good bike out of. He got it all put together and has it running but when he pushes on the throttle the clutch doesn't engage till the RPM's are quite high and even when its moving it doesn't really speed up, almost seems like its in "limp mode". He's tried 2 different transmissions so I don't think that's the problem.
Is there any adjustment on the clutch engagement? Anything else I can tell him to look at? Let me know if you need anymore information if you think you can help.
