I have a 97 Kodiak 400 4x4 and the fuel gauge in the tank was damaged when I got it. I would like to replace it and Yamaha has given me a price of $50 for the parts. I have a Clymer manual but it does not give the remove and replace instructions for the fuel gauge only the tank. Any wizard out there that can give me the info or point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance

The gauge on the top is broken for sure. The level/sensor may or may not be damaged. The parts are not that expensive I just can not find out how to remove and replace them. My manual shows the part but no instructions.

I have a 2000 big Bear 400. probably the same part. The guage on mine works, the clear plastic cover is not clear, and broke so gas splashes out. It looks like the silver cap retaining it has little detent clips cut into the side that can be gently un-hooked with a dental pick or similar tool to remove the cover, but is pointless without a replacement part. Anyone have a PN for that? There may be an o-ring in there as well.

OK, I already found the answer to my own question. The guage unit sells for $30, and bezel for $6 from PowerSportsPro.com. Since my guage functions I am ging to remove the decomposed (due to ethanol?) clear part and epoxy on an old watch crystal. If it doesn't work it cost nothing to try.

The clock repair guy didn't have a crystal for me so i epoxied on a clear lens from an old mini-maglite. It may or may not have a problem with the gas, but at least it does't splash gas anymore.

Has anyone had a suzuki 230 quad lock the engine up?  Its a well maintained bike, it locked up when my son was riding it. Pulled the plug, it has connected with the piston. I'm thinking the con rod let go.  I don't have a service manual.  Does the engine need to come out to check further?

I recently read an article about restoring or at least improving the looks of faded and discolored plastic body parts. In the article it suggested using a 50/50 mixture of boiled linseed oil and paint thinner. You mix it up and apply it with a brush or rag to rub it in and remove the oxidation. I curious to find out if anyone has had experience with doing this and what was their short/long term results of doing so. I would hate to try it and find out that a few weeks/months down the road my plastic body parts self destruct.
