Sounds like a wiring or kill switch issue to me. Could also be that your secondary ignition is not working. Once you let go of the start button and the engine is running, the ignition gets power from the secondary ignition which is powered by the stator and runs through the regulator/rectifier to power the ignition and charge the battery. While you are starting the engine, the ignition runs off of the primary ignition, which is powered by the battery.

Hello thank you very much for your help changed out stator, kill switch, wiring harness, same problem, so then i started thinking about what you said about primary & secondary ignition so then I started reading the repair manual under ignition coil the coil was the first thing I changed before asking for help thru forum thanks to your suggestion about primary & secondary ignition I found out repair manual says "DO NOT SUBSTITUE COIL" which I put on a hot universal coil found out it didn't work the hard way long story short got a oem coil & it fired right up perfectly atlease I now I have extra parts lol. Thank again because without your help I would have never figured it out.

I am having the exact same problem with my 00 LTF500F. The only thing I changed was the spark plug, and the only thing possibly weird or odd about the primary/secondary system on mine is that I was using a totally dead, unrechargable battery in the quad with jumper cables to another battery. I am gonna put in a new battery and go back to the old plug and see what happens.

If it doesn't work, my best guess would be that your stator is bad, it is what the quad's ignition will run off of after it starts. The regulator/rectifier could also be the issue.

BTW, atvfreak, you are welcome, I did not catch the thankyou post untill now, I am glad I could help.

I am unable to find a wiring diagram for this UTV.  When I turn the switch to on, the contractor does not engage.  The Brake pressure switch and the parking brake switches work correctly. What else should I be looking for?  All of the diagrams I have found are for newer models and the wire color coding is different.

      Thanks

Just getting into this issue really. Been replacing solenoids but now I'd like to track down the problem. This time I'm not getting neutral/reverse lights or start button. Was on a creek ride when it started doing this recently. It cranks by arcing the solenoid and gives me no light or start button but if I crank with the pull cord....the neutral light and the button work. Turn it off and try to crank with the key and nothing. I'm looking into the safety switch issue tomorrow and re charging the battery. Just figured this was odd enough of a problem that you guys might be familiar. Thanks

Hi all.  New to the forum & quads.  Seems like a great place full of info.
I just recently picked up a 2005 Suzuki KingQuad LTA700.  I need a battery.  I've been reading up on conventional vs AGM types.  I have a Royal Distributing and Canadian Tire.  RD has 2 types avail for my year/Model a battery YTX16-BS CRANK $75, and BATTERY YTX20CH-BS YUASA $140.  Neither of these is the type from the manual FTZ16-BS.
from what I can tell... I think the only difference is the capacity with the $75 unit rated at 14 AH/10HR and the $140 unit rated at 18 AH/10HR ... which is the rating in the manual for the FTZ16-BS.  How much does this make a difference for nearly x2 the cost?
And about the models/type numbers.... what is important to know ... they all end in "-BS" but are the other details relevant or just manufacturer naming?

As the title says, I've got a crankcase full of fuel / oil to deal with and figure I'll just start from the top and move through the system.  Going to start with a rebuild of the petcock and then the carb if the problem isn't fixed with the petcock rebuild.  I figure I'll go with a Moose kit unless others with experience recommend another brand (All Balls, etc.)
      Any suggestions?  Thanks in advance.
