2009 Sportsman 400 AWD engine knock at idle

Hi. New to the forum. Just recently purchased a new 09 Sportsman 400 AWD. Is the knock or rattle that these atv`s make at idle normal ? Goes away as the engine is revved up. Was also told it could be gear rattle.

Alot of the newer 4-stroke motors have a very thrashy sound, especially at an idle. A TRX 450R sounds like it is going to fall apart when it is idling, but as soon as you hit the throttle, it sounds great. Just to be safe, take it to the dealer that you bought it from and have them listen to it, they will be able to give you the best advise.

I have to 4 strokes 2010 and 2009 and they both have a little knock when idling..from what i hear and what i've experienced...this is pretty normal for 4 strokes....but if your worried you can always take it back and have it checked....Muddie49

Took it back to dealer and he said the knock is the oil pump and that all Polaris`s do it.
