2000 Artic Cat 400 CDI problems

Recommended Posts

I have to many to post I am finding problems left and right on it but i was curious if anyone knew what are some CDI symptoms are?

Also when I start it up it takes about 20 mins before i can even get it moving it stops moving when ever the fan comes on also got any ideas

It also makes a loud pop noise and and a flame comes out of the exhaust.

The previous owner put all the wires for almost everything together and taped it up so i am trying to test everything to c why its acting up.

Regulator/rectifier might be bad, sending too much voltage to the ignition.

I merged your two threads together, they are still basically the same subject, in the future, just go ahead and add to your first thread unless it is a completely different issue.

The problem may also just be your CDI by itself, obvoiusly that needs to be replaced, so I would start with that, if you keep having problems after replacing the CDI, then I would look to the other things, like the regulator/rectifier. Babbits online parts has some good prices on OEM parts.

Since you mentioned the previous owner did his own wiring there is a possibility something wasn't done right or something shorted. I would test first to make sure your regulator didn't crap out and cause an over voltage condition. That could be why the CDI fried.

In this forum, I posted a link for Arctic Cat service manuals. Now there isn't one for the 2000 model, the earliest year I see for the 400 is 2003. However, the 4th file down from the list is ALL the schematics for ALL Arctic Cat ATV's & Sleds from the year 2000-2009. It is a large file (about 438 megs) but it has the schematics you need.

Here is the link...

having an issue with the unit when running under a load up a hill or in high gear, seems like the belt is slipping, there is a clapping sound coming from the primary clutch like it releases and snaps back in. i don't think I should have a noise like that. this is a friends unit and he has already replaced the primary twice with the same result.
not sure where to look next

3500lb, synthetic rope lead and everything needed to install for........................................ $89 bucks!  I'm installing one on my '01 Bombardier Quest and it looks like a legit buy. If you have a RK nearby & you need a winch you might want to swing by before they disappear.
