It is very importand that there is a good seal in the cylinder/crankcase area on a two stroke. It's operating principals are heavily dependent on alternating pressure and vacuum signals in the crankcase. Google "leakdown test" there are ready made kits on the market, but they are expensive. You can make your own using cheap parts that you can get from a hardware store. The hardest part to find is an air guage that reads in small increments, you need to be able to read a drop of just 1 psi. The idea is that you plug the exhuast port off, and pump the motor up with air from the intake side. Google "leakdown test" and do some reaserch. It is a real pain, but it can help you avoid catostrophic damage to your motor. Here is a pic of a home made leakdown tester, the rubber squeeze plugs on the right are what was used to seal off the exhuast port, the pump, hose, guage unit has an end on it that fits snuggly into the intake boot, and you just tighten it down with the clamp just as you would the carb. Note the ball valve between the pump and the guage, this is necessary to seal the air pressure in the motor. I have no idea what the object in the lower right hand corner is for, I just found this pic on the web and thought it was a good example. The downside is, if there is a leak it will need to be fixed, if it were in the the internal crank seal, or a leak between the case halves, you would need to take the top end back off and split the cases to fix it. It would have been best to do the leakdown test prior to tearing the top end off, that way you would have known it there was something else causing problems. My suggestion would be to just take care of potentiol problem ahead of time. While you have the top end off, just split the cases, get a full gasket and seal kit for the motor. This will aslo give you an opportunity to check other things like the crankshaft and bearings. Either way, when you get the motor together, do the leakdown test, it can save you from blowing up the motor you just put back together.

Hi, I have been around everything with a motor since I was little, and finally purchased more to get my husband, and kids involved. I have 4 quads I will be searching around for information on. I have two 2002 Suzuki LT80K quads, a 1997 Yamaha Timberwolf 250, and a 1996 Kawasaki Bayou 220. I have had different ones throughout the years, and plan on buying another Yamaha Banshee. I plan on trying to learn more about all of them, so I can customize some of them. I know nothing about them besides how to race them, my dad always took care of the rest, but figured it was time for me to learn.

      I Crashed My Quad
Well the Way I Ride, some of you knew it was Inevitable.
      Below are Three Videos.
First one is Slow Motion of How it Happens.
Second one is Normal Speed, and what happens after the Accident.
Third one Follows more of what happens after .

I Was Riding By Myself. I was going through a Mud HOLE Either there was a log or a rock, or A Dip but just as I was almost through it, Machine, Rolled over on my right side, as soon as I contacted the ground, I Heard A SNAP! I got up, flipped the Quad back over. I had the wind knocked out of me.

I hadn't driven my Kodiak for a two months, and since it was low on fuel, the first thing I did was filled it up to maybe 7/8 full. Getting ready to start it, I rotated the fuel selector switch to "on" and within seconds I smelled and saw fuel dripping onto the floor. I quickly turned it off and the fuel gradually stopped - I can repeat this.
The fuel is flowing from the hose that is connected to the bottom of the carb, and routes around to the left side toward the wheel well. Any idea what's going on here? It ran fine the last time I had it out.
      Thanks...

I am new to this site. Now down to business, I have been given a Kawasaki 220, tires are trashed and it has been setting for a long time. Do I need a battery in it to find neutral? I know there is a neutral switch and if I shift down(7 times????)   then up one using the neutral switch I should be in Neutral. As you see I am in a learning curve here ......coments welcome.

Does the 1987 moto 4 350 have a low oil sensor that kills spark? Or are these too old for that kind of thing?
