My fourwheeler has always ran fine, but the other night when i was using it i shut it off and than started it back up a hour later and it started running terrible as soon as you give it gas. You can feather it along if the choke is on but still not running very good. any ideas????

First thing I would try is draining the fuel and starting with fresh gas, you may just have some bad gas. I am assuming that the quad starts and idles fine, but as soon as you give it gas it runs like crap. If none of the other advise has helped, take the top off of the carb and look inside. Make sure that the spring, retainer and needle are all as they should be. I have seen problems with these carbs with the floating slide. The needle retainer breaks and slips up into the spring and doesn't hold the needle down anymore. So when you give it gas, the butterfly valve opens letting air throught the venturi, which lifts the slide valve. Since the needle may not be sitting in the proper position, it may be allowing the main jet to open too early, flooding the engine. If every thing looks ok in the top of the carb, take the float bowl off and make sure there is no debris in the carb pluggin things up.

if you are running on reserve then there is a chance that the fuel filter is plugging up in the tank or your tank is actually lower and ther is not enough fuel supply to run the throttle. i agree with DD and drain the fuel system and clean the crap out of the tank, fuel pump, fuel filter. if that does not help then pull the carb out and clean it.

I’m having a issue with my choke when its on it runs fine when I cut the choke off the atv cuts off went to take the carburetor off and saw the choke plunger broke at the nut to screw it in could this be my issue? Do I just need to buy a plunger kit and put it on? I took the carburetor off and cleaned both jets anyway just to make sure and it’s still having issues staying on

Hey guys! I am new here to the forum and need some help getting my Polaris 325 Magnum 2001 Running.....So I got it for free and it has never run quite right...I put a aftermarket carb on it last year and it was running fine but it only went like 20 maybe 25mph max......But then the needle and seat sealed leaked within a yeah and it flooded it REALLY bad so I changed the oil because it was full of gas. So then I put a genuine Polaris carb on it and I have it set to all the factory specs, but it was still not running right....So I replaced the ignition coil and the spark plug and that solved one of the problems I had (It would bog down and stop running when i would go up a hill) But it still didn't have that much "Punch" to it like my Kawasaki Prairie 300 ans Suzuki Kingkuad 300.....So I replaced the CDI but it's still not running right! It's acting like it rich kinda....So it runs mostly okayish when I have the airfilter on but the top of the airbox off but as soon as I put the airbox lid on it like REALLY bogs down and wants to stall really bad. I have the carb at the factory specs and it has a pretty new fuel pump so I have no ideas whats going wrong! It still nly has a top speed of only about 30-35mph and it sounds like it's choking the whole time! Thank you for sticking to the end, and I hope you guys can help me!

I have acquired a free 92 Polaris 350L 4X4. Ive replaced carburetor from ebay, replaced spark plug, im trying to pull start but sounds like it doesnt want to fire. Spark is a bright orange spark (checked with spark plug tester), replaced plug, pre mixed gas from an external gravity feed tank. Compression test good. Anyone got any recommendations for me?

If anyone is having issues with the Mikuni VM24SS carb, I thought I would post what issues I had and how I resolved them.
Acquired a 93 Bayou 220 that had sat for over 4 years.
The carb was extremely corroded and pitted and full of leftover fuel.
Cleaned carb and bowl and was able to get the engine to start.
Within 30 seconds exhaust would heat up and start to glow red hot.
Removed carb and recleaned everything, including a second overnight soak.
Needless to say, after removing the carb for the 5th time and my frustration to the limit I
realized that my attention had been to the carb body and not to the bowl.
There is a small brass rod on the bottom of the carb that goes down into the float bowl but is seperated from the main section. I had cleaned that area very well....I had thought.
***The corrosion had sealed off the channel that runs from the main bowl section to the small tube section on the side of the float bowl. No amount of carb cleaner was going to get it to budge. So i took a small nail and started to scrape away the corrosion and was eventually able to dislodge enought of the corrosion that carb cleaner would flow through that channel. ***
I thoroughly cleaned each side of the channel in the float bowl and reinstalled the carb and now the issue of it running lean is gone.
On a second note the fuel mixture screw was a nightmare to remove as the threads had been corroded and wouldnt let the screw come out. I used a little cutting oil and worked the mixture screw in and out until I was able to push past the corroded threads and completely remove the needle. After a couple passes with a tap to clean the threads it is like new again.
Hope this helps if you are having a lean running machine.

The choke lever doesn't stay in position on my 2001 Yamaha Kodiak.  The model is YFM 400.  I have to hold the lever to the choke position manually for some reason.  Any Ideas as to why?
