2003 yamaha kodiak 4x4 right front notchy feeling

Took the right front wheel off to put on new brake pads, once the wheel was off, i turned the hub, it was tough to get to turn and then notchy. Is it the way the differential is made that if you turn that wheel it is tought to turn and notchy? The left front is very smooth. I hope its just the way the gears are that give it the notchy feeling while turning it.

Was it in gear or in neutral? It's normal, for the diff to feel like this, as long as it's not locked up.

it was in neautral and the diff was not locked. so it must just be the way the gears mesh when you turn that wheel idk

was the left wheel off the ground at the same time? if so, you may need a RH axle- it should be smooth like the LH was. it might drag some cuz you're turning the gears, but it should be smooth.

Like on a FWD car, when the CV joints start to go in the axle they make grinding or popping noises when you turn the wheels right or left. may not be noticeable when going straight.

My Accord goes 'clunk clunk clunk' when I turn left sharply- the warning sounds of an axle going out. Quads are no different.

Bad wheel bearings maybe?
