Hello

I have a Yahama Raptor 660 2003. I bought from my friend it wasn't working when i bought it. All I did was take the carb out and cleaned it, then took the two bowels out and cleaned that. Once I did that then it started. But when you rev it up it back fires and sounds like it has a hard time keeping up, sounds like its going to die. but it sounds fine when at idling. Kinda of wondering if the carb needs to be rebuilt or if there's something elese wrong. If anyone can help that would be great. Thanks for your time.

Also I forgot to mention. The only way to start it is with the choke on, once its warmed up I turn the choke off and the thing dies, also when you rev up it just back fires, sounds like it trying to rev.

Sounds like it's fuel starved. Has it ever been jetted before? Some carbs get corroded inside around the float pin needle, causing the float to not operate quick enough. Pull the carb bowl off and tap that float to make sure it moves freely.

I did take both bowels off and cleaned and made sure float was moving, I don't think its been jetted before I think a rebuild might fixs it? Right?

the only thing that will cause a backfire is a to lean issue. to much fuel will flood it. the choke adds fuel to the system. i would completely clean and rebuild the carb. also the fuel pump could be causing a slight issue if it is dirty or dry.

I'm going to rebuild the carb to see what happens. On the brakes there is a wire that is broken. Looks like it clips in there I put it back in it doesn't really do anything. I'll let you know what happens after i rebuild the carb Thanks for you help

don't rebuild anything if u not sure. make some pictures i didn't see any pictures its too many models and setting for carburetors make pictures ask question which screw to adjust. show what u done then we can solve problems easel e in no time.

I already know that everything is is working or it wouldn't start up on the choke. I'm pretty sure it is the carb being gummed up and not adjust right, its been sitting for a at least 8 months. plus the carb is not in a easy place to work on, its kinda of in there. Also I was thinking of rebuilding it myself but ive really never done it. What screws you talking about? the air/fuel mixture? I was just thinking if i got it rebuilt then i know everything is working in the carb.

I got my carb back and I put it back, the thing runs good nice sound. I do have a brake safety switch on order, I learned that mine was missing. which is werid cause I was riding it right after i got the carb then 10 mins later it wouldn't work right. I just want to say thanks for your guys help. you pointed me in the right direction. Thanks again you guys

P.S. redneckyankee your fuel problem could it be the gas cap. Cause like mine its gravity feed in and if it can't breath its going to restricted the flow of gas getting to the carb when the gas gets lower correct?

I recently purchased a raptor 80 for my grandson for  christmas. I am trying to make sure it is running properly. i have rebuilt the carb and adjusted the carb idle then the mixture to middle of where it runs rough and it runs great for about a min or 2. then it stalls out. I can usually choke it and it will start so i feel it is lacking fuel. the fuel shutoff valve has been changed and i checked it for good fuel flow.  any ideas of what to check next. I am planning to vfy fuel float height tomorrow. I visually checked it by turning carb upside down when i had it apart and it looked level. any ideas are appreciated.

      Thanks.

I got a 2005 350 Raptor Special Edition and I'm dealing with a no start issue; the weirdest thing is when I'm cranking it fires and slows down showing signs of pre firing, smoke shoots out the carburetor every time it sparks. every electrical part (CDI, Rectifier, Stator, Coil) has been swapped out from previous owner, the top end of the engines all new and I cleaned the carb out, anyone got any ideas or similar problems, also is it possible to have a bad spark timing

I've got a 1995 220 Bayou and the electric start does not work.  When I got it the machine was pretty rough but I was told it ran less than a year ago.  The key switch had been cut off and wires  twisted after the key was lost.  I bought a new ignition switch and repaired the wiring and it is working correctly.  It is in neutral and the neutral light is on when the key is turned on but I get nothing when pressing the start button.  I verified there is no voltage going to the starter from the solenoid.  The fuse in the solenoid is good.  Something I found that is odd is that I get positive voltage(12 volts) to the brown, black, and white wires that run into the solenoid when the key is on.  That doesn't make sense to me but I could be wrong.  I would appreciate any help I can get. Thank you in advance.

I bought this from a buddy to plow snow up in the North Eastern Washington- its been getting oil in the water and I've been changing the oil often and adding collant as necessary-
I've taken the stator cover off and I'm looking at the Oil Seal and water pump seal and they look good- Although I've ordered a factory oil Seal I'm looking at putting it in this afternoon-
I don't have the factory service manual- am I suppose to Add RTV to the Stator cover Gasket? I've seen some folks suggest grease other suggest RTV?

Any suggestions here- I'm trying to reassemble it tonight- I looked at downloading the manual but need to get up to 10 posts firsts it looks like-

I appreciate any suggestions- normally I'm a jeep and honda dirt bike guy- but  I got a good deal on the quad and a plow so I went for it
Its got a bit over 3K and runs pretty good- but I've had her tore apart for 3 weeks to figure out the oil in the coolant issue.

      Hello All
I'm kinda new to ATVs. I just bought a 1987 Suzuki quad runner 230 Dual Range. I'm having a problem finding info on it. It's very clean, only 2.800 miles. The front wheels are only 30 in.center to center. I was thinking about adding wheel spacers to give it more stability. I realize the added stress on ball joints and bearings. I'm wondering if there are any other concerns? Any input is greatly appreciated!
