I have a 1999 king quad 300. When you start it .it runs fine for a few seconds ,then really starts to miss. I found out that if you turn switch on over to headlight side, it will smooth out and run fine. I checked voltage at battery while running, and got 17.68 volts. could the regulator rectifier be the problem. also , if this is the problem,where is it located.

17.68 volts is way to high. the first thing to check is the battery bolts. if they are even a bit loose, it can cause a high reading. if they are indeed tight, the voltage problem may very well be the rectifier/regulator. i believe on that model it is under the plastic behind the front rack, bolted to the frame. as far as it misfiring /running rough, that is most likely not a voltage problem. there may be a problem in the handlebar switch assembly that may be causing it, you may have a bad ground (by the way, aprox 70% of all motorcycle/atv electrical problems are a ground problem). if you had a bad ground in the right spot, it could be causing both problems. but that is not likely. that in no way means you should not check it out. on my machines, one of the first "modifications" i make is to run one wire, from the negative battery post, to the engine, and then on to the frame. i make this out of a very light gauge, white whire, so if a ground problem comes up, it will overheat the wire, which will either burn it in half, or at least turn the white insulation dark. off the top of my head, two of the most common problems with these running rough, is either a dirty carburetor, or a leaking intake manifold. if it is an electrical problem, they usually show up with heat, and take 15 minutes plus to show up. please notice i did say usually. one thing about electronics, is there is no certainty.

That's odd, sounds like there is an open circuit somewhere. Do you have a wiring diagram?

Thanks for the help. I finally called a suzuki service dept. and told them what it was doing and they immediately told me it was the regular-rectifier. I put one on and it solved my problem.

      I am unable to find a wiring diagram for this UTV.  When I turn the switch to on, the contractor does not engage.  The Brake pressure switch and the parking brake switches work correctly. What else should I be looking for?  All of the diagrams I have found are for newer models and the wire color coding is different.

      Just getting into this issue really. Been replacing solenoids but now I'd like to track down the problem. This time I'm not getting neutral/reverse lights or start button. Was on a creek ride when it started doing this recently. It cranks by arcing the solenoid and gives me no light or start button but if I crank with the pull cord....the neutral light and the button work. Turn it off and try to crank with the key and nothing. I'm looking into the safety switch issue tomorrow and re charging the battery. Just figured this was odd enough of a problem that you guys might be familiar. Thanks

      Hey guys, so I've been messing with my quad, and between all the starts, the battery is dead. Is there a certain way to charge these? Can I just throw a trickle charger on it and call it a day? can i also jump it like a normal car with a battery pack or is that to much voltage

      Hi all.  New to the forum & quads.  Seems like a great place full of info.
      I just recently picked up a 2005 Suzuki KingQuad LTA700.  I need a battery.  I've been reading up on conventional vs AGM types.  I have a Royal Distributing and Canadian Tire.  RD has 2 types avail for my year/Model a battery YTX16-BS CRANK $75, and BATTERY YTX20CH-BS YUASA $140.  Neither of these is the type from the manual FTZ16-BS.
      from what I can tell... I think the only difference is the capacity with the $75 unit rated at 14 AH/10HR and the $140 unit rated at 18 AH/10HR ... which is the rating in the manual for the FTZ16-BS.  How much does this make a difference for nearly x2 the cost?
      And about the models/type numbers.... what is important to know ... they all end in "-BS" but are the other details relevant or just manufacturer naming?

      Just picked up an 84 LT185 ATV, I understand there was an accessory add  on that gave it electric start, anyone have any info about that kit?
