1995 Kawasaki Bayou 220 - No Spark Issues

Recommended Posts

Ok here is what happened. I notice a four wheeler at sitting in the weeds at my moms house.she said it had been there about a year and that she got tired of messing with it and told me to take it. i cleaned up the carb real good (it was pretty nasty) and put it back on, cleaned out the gas tank , put some gas in it. i was surprised but it started and ran fairly well. i rode it a few times, never for very long and then my little girl lost the key to it. since i couldn't find it i decided to just use a toggle switch and bypass ignition. when i got it hooked up for some reason i pushed the kill switch on the handlebar to off. when i did that i heard a pop which turned out to be the fuse. slid that switch back over, replaced the fuse, and tried to start it but no luck. It had been running good enough that it would start first pull with the rope. now it is not getting any fire to the plug. Does anybody know where i need to start troubleshooting the issue or why it blew the fuse. Any help will be appreciated.

i would try to get a new key and cylinder and replace the toggle. sounds like something is shorting out however you got it rigged up. or you could get a voltage tester and see where the dead spot is and try and go from there. usually no damage happens if the fuse blows ...

since you said you turned the kill switch to the off position and that caused the fuse to pop i would check the kill switch wiring and my guess is that's where it maybe grounding out the ignition coil.

    • 1993 Kawasaki bayou 400 help been sitting in barn

I was given a 93 bayou 400 that has been sitting in a barn since some time in 94, hardly any use. The story behind it is the owner poured some gas out of a can full of trash and stopped the carb up. His meth head son took the carb off to rebuild it and got locked up, carb lost in the wind. The bike has been sitting covered ever since. The front rack and bumper has been misplaced but the rest of the bike is there and after washing off some dust it looks like a brand new bike. Still has the little tits on factory dry rotted tires. The old man is supposed to look for the missing parts but I don't have high hopes of them turning up. Just ordered a carb for it and now looking for missing front pieces. My main question is how much in common does the 400 share with the 300? Seems locally the 400 bayous are as rare as unicorn tears but I find 300 parts bikes all over for next to nothing. I looked on fleabay and seems most of the racks and bumpers on there look like they have been in a demo derby and cost way more than I'm willing to spend for something all beat to crap. If I knew the 300 stuff would indeed work I can pick up a whole bike minus the engine locally for $50.  Not tying to do a pebbles beach restro but just a nice atv we can work around the farm on while spending as little as possible. Most likely throw some 26's under it and also let dad deer hunt off it.

    • STOLEN ATV: Stolen 2018 Red Polaris 570 4-wheeler

Red 2018 Polaris 570 4-Wheeler, less than 10 hours on it. We just got it. We added a couple of things to it, but will withhold that information for identity reasons.
We are moving into a new home & they broke in & took the 4 wheeler along with a title saw, many tools that belonged to our contractor, all the bedding off the bed, curtains, all our cleaning supplies, container with office supplies, family pictures, a container full of DVD’s, & a blue ray player, all the Dish network equipment, hopper etc. The post Stolen 2018 Red Polaris 570 4-wheeler appeared first on Stolen 911. • Confirm the year on your wheeler before ordering parts!

Here is an issue we see often at the shop!   In this video, Robyn explains how to confirm the year of an ATV using the VIN. It is important to confirm the ATV model year as this is a commonly mistaken characteristic that is often essential to order the correct part. Each VIN consists of 17 characters. The 10th character will help you identify the machine year. To do so, compare it with the chart available on our website: https://resurgencesmallengine.com/machine-identification

Does anyone know where I can get a manual or wiring diagram for a 1984 Kawasaki prairie 250 three wheeler, it's manual clutch chain drive with locking hubs in rear. I got it real cheap and wiring is a mess.

Hello, well back to where I was last year with this carb. Took my 250 to the mountains for the first time this year and blue smoke, too much gas again. I can't believe that this carb gives me this much trouble. Seems like the choke is stuck but the cable moves freely. Anyone else ever experience this issue? Do you think a new choke cable would maybe resolve this?http://www.quadcrazy.com/atvforum/images/smilies/arghh.gif
OK it was the choke. Put on all new cable and plunger and she is running 100% again. So now the question is, is the carb getting worn out where the plunger needle goes in the small hole and when I use the choke the needle end doesn't get lined back up with the hole?? We'll see how it runs and now that I know what the issue is I can always pull the choke plunger out and reinstall if I start having this issue again.

Somehow I lost all of my spark on my 350Big Bear, its a 1990. It ran well for maybe 3 days! Thought it was the carb. Cleaned it 4 times. It was losing power at midrange. Got worse and worse. Finally nothing!
Are these good coils? I was thinking I could swap?

I have a 2003 Bayou 250. Suddenly, it won't start with the start switch. No clicking, no neutral light on. It will pull start fine. The battery is new. Any idea what to look at first? Thanks.

Clutches are engaging shifting fine I can turn the tires and the secondary clutch spins engaging the primary just not getting power to the wheels when it's running.
