Hi folks, I am new to this forum and signed up hoping to get some advice as to what the problem is with the electrics on my timberwolf.

The quad is a 2000 4x4 model, just bought it on the cheap a few weeks ago with electric start and lights not working. The starter makes no noise and no attempt to start whatsoever when the button is pushed and the lights dont work at all. It has a battery that has charge in it, so dont know why it wont just run off the battery, could it be a fuse?

I saw a thread on here about electric start not working on a timberwolf, I got some info from that but think this problem may be different so thought I'd make my own thread.

Any advice would be appreciated

Cheers

i'd check the fuses, i think it's an inline fuse on that bike. i'd also get a votage meter and get some readings where the current doesn't show up. you could try jumping the starter at the solenoid/starter relay. if you have a meter, you could also test the battery. a bad battery won't make everything work ...

I'll try get my hands on a meter today and test for current and chceck battery. Though inclined to think its not the battery as I was told it has charge and doesnt even make a clicking sound when pushing starter button. Hope it is the battery though, would make a cheap fix.

Thanks for the reply

Hey everyone looking for a suggestion of where i can start looking. But first I'd like to explain what happened. Took the bike this morning got it started in 6 degrees celsius in 6-7 kicks? No choke. Drove 6km and when shifted to next gear bike decided to just shut off, stopped checked everything out seemed good, started first kick and on i went, drove maybe another 2km bike did same thing but this time it took me 10-15 kicks to get it started, on the third time after a kilometer decided not to start at all. Kicked it like a 450 a couple hundred times, nothing. So far checked gas is good, bypassed fuel filter and on/off valve to eliminate that problem, hot wired the kill switch in case something got corroded there. Nothing. Any suggestions would be welcomed. (Heard valve adjustment are a must do?)

Troubleshooting a no spark issue, was running OK, maybe a little rich, turned it off, now no spark. I've checked/ohmed out the main key switch, the start/stop switch, neutral switch, brake switch - all good. It will crank the starter, but no spark with the starter or when I try the pull start. I've checked all fuses and diodes. Swapped battery. New plug. New coil. Swapped in a used CDI - no help. Traced, removed, cleaned, reattached all grounds. Removed things like my winch from the circuits to be sure a bad relay or something was dragging it down. When testing voltages, the orange wire going from the CDI to the ignition coil shows no/very low voltage-shouldn't it have 12V on it? Sometimes I get a very weak, intermittent glow on my spark tester, but not enough to fire the plug. I've checked continuity on just about all wires in the harness. Checked/cleaned/lubed w dielectric grease- all connections, redid a few that looked old/dirty. I've checked the stator resistances, all good, but have a stator and rectifier ordered anyway, will arrive Sunday. I verified that the rectifier has a voltage output back to charge the battery while cranking - 10.5-11V, low, but expected while starter is engaged. What else can I check as part of troubleshooting? I have a Haines service manual, but the 1999 350 4x4 seems to be an odd model, there isn't an exact electrical diagram for it, but found one for another year that has all the same number of wires and same color wires, so I've referenced that. Any hints, tips or advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

Do not know what else I need to attach the pull start to this machine. I have the pulley but nothing to attach it with. Could you help with what else I need. It's a 1999 Lakota 300

Pulled my '86 Moto4 out of shed where it sat for 20 years. I knew it smoked. checked it over a little put in gas and it fired right up!!
Drove about 100 yards, ran about half throttle wouldn't idle.  Put on somenew parts, jug/piston and rings, carb and valve seals.
'went together ok, tuned it over by hand about 6 revs whick went well. Hit the starter it fired for about 6 revs and quit. tried it again fired once and then th sound of something slipping like maybe chain slipping over spoket.
Took cover off to watch cam sproket, hit starter again, heard same noise and the cam sproket was not turning but jumping a bit. Chain was still tight. You will probably tell me I need to split the lower case but hoping there mightbe something else.
I don't fully understand the chain tightener, the plunger only moves about 1/4 inch, should it move much more than that when off the motor and compressing it by hand?
      Thanks for any thoughts.
