Hello... I recently bought a used 1997 yamaha kodiak 400 4x4 .. I cannot find no 4wd switch on it at all... I got the manual for it from someone on this site and it shows its on the drivers side handle bar where you give it gas but there is nothing there at all... so thought maybe it had been removed but there is no lose wiring no where that connected to anything there...

so i been trying to figure out how to get from 2wd into 4wd but there is no switch to push on it as far as I can tell...

and my neighber said the reason i could not pull the manual cable to start the atv is because you have to release compression with a nob are something before it will pull easy to start the atv?

Sure would appreicate anyones thoughts on these two things thank you

it just might be full time 4 wheel drive. block your machine up and see if the front tires spin also ...

as for a 'knob' for decompression, not likely. the trick is to pull the cord and make tension, count to 3 and then pull hard. PIA for sure, i had to do it with my grizzly, and it's no fun ...

So my moto 4 is smoking white smoke and when I go to first gear and get about half throttle there’s no power and it sounds like it’s bogging

on my left brake handle (for the rear brakes) there's two wires attached to it. What are these wires for? They can't be for the tail light, since it only has on filament  I tried to trace them, but i got lost in the harness. I checked wiring schematics, but didn't see anything like that.
      I'll post a pic later.

Troubleshooting a no spark issue, was running OK, maybe a little rich, turned it off, now no spark. I've checked/ohmed out the main key switch, the start/stop switch, neutral switch, brake switch - all good. It will crank the starter, but no spark with the starter or when I try the pull start. I've checked all fuses and diodes. Swapped battery. New plug. New coil. Swapped in a used CDI - no help. Traced, removed, cleaned, reattached all grounds. Removed things like my winch from the circuits to be sure a bad relay or something was dragging it down. When testing voltages, the orange wire going from the CDI to the ignition coil shows no/very low voltage-shouldn't it have 12V on it? Sometimes I get a very weak, intermittent glow on my spark tester, but not enough to fire the plug. I've checked continuity on just about all wires in the harness. Checked/cleaned/lubed w dielectric grease- all connections, redid a few that looked old/dirty. I've checked the stator resistances, all good, but have a stator and rectifier ordered anyway, will arrive Sunday. I verified that the rectifier has a voltage output back to charge the battery while cranking - 10.5-11V, low, but expected while starter is engaged. What else can I check as part of troubleshooting? I have a Haines service manual, but the 1999 350 4x4 seems to be an odd model, there isn't an exact electrical diagram for it, but found one for another year that has all the same number of wires and same color wires, so I've referenced that. Any hints, tips or advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

I’m looking for any member that may be familiar with the neutral safety switch on this bike.
I picked up a bayou 220 that I found sitting in a shed. Nice looking bike the guy said it would not start one day and put it away and never touched it again.
So it turns out the neutral safety switch is bad.  I jumped it out and the bike fired up and runs good.
I’m more then capable of the work in changing it but this thing is buried pretty good. I’m curious if anyone has done the switch replacement before?
I attached some pics to see.
picture 1 is the side view you can see the green and red wires going into the cover.
Pic 2 shows looking down on the drive shaft coming out of that cover.  That is not a simple cover you just pull off.
Im wondering how deep and how much sh** has to come off like the drive shaft etc for this switch  to be replaced.
So if any of the QC members have done this switch I’m looking for any input with regard to changing it.
      Thanks.
