Hello everyone! I would like to excuse myself in advance, as I am not very smart in mechanics... So, bear with me.

Last year my girlfriend gave me a 1996 Kawasaki Bayou 300, as she was moving and fourwheelers werent allowed in city limits. Recently, I have run into a little problem.

My fourwheeler will idle just fine for a bit, but whenever I give it any throttle, it will kill the motor or nearly kill it. Eventually, if it idles too long, the motor dies. Im not sure why its doing this. My dad thinks it is the fuel filter, but he also isnt familiar with small engines.

When I start my fourwheeler, I generally let it idle for about 4-6 minutes. It also never has needed to be choked to be started really, just a little tap on the throttle.

Im not sure what it is, and need opinions. Thanks!

This thing came with a cheap aftermarket carb on it the problem I'm having is it won't start with choke installed into carburetor it will start and get run without it installed then bogs out after about 2 min run time I've checked timing , compression, checked valves for proper clearance , also did a smoke test for air leaks found none.

Hey all, new to the forum! I just bought a 1998 Kawasaki bayou 300, 4x4 not running. Initially I found no spark. Ended up playing with the plug wire (made sure plug top and wiring was touching) and got spark yesterday and the quad fired up off ether. Come to work on it today and now no spark again. Before I got spark and now today if I touch the plug after cranking I get shocked, and it will spark after I release the starter button. I was jumping the quad with a freshly charged car battery that has 12v while cranking. Cleaned out the kill switch and ignition button. All looks good. Purchased new plugs. They're are a lot of wires cut/ disconnected. But shouldn't matter if I got spark without them connected...

HI everyone. New to this forum. I have 98 Kawasaki Bayou 400 with an apparent electrical issue. I have the Clymer manual, but I am not exactly sure where to start. The issue started a month ago and the neutral light would go on and off intermittently. Eventually it went completely off , and I thought it was a shifting issue. I took the case off and checked the clutch and all mechanical shifting components are good, so I think I eliminated that. The switch sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. Last time I tried, I did hear a clicking sound near where the battery is right before the light went out. Does anyone have any ideas where to start? Hoping this is an easy fix.
