  1. I would start with the carb and see if it helps. Are you using ethynol fuel in the carb? If so it can form a jelly like substance in the float bowl when not used for long periods of time. Did you check you have good fuel flow to the carb, there could also be a problem with the petcock.
  2. King quads are great, good choice.
  3. Welcome! Hope you enjoy the site.
  4. 👍
  5. Polaris is good they have been around for a while and are definately one of the top contenders. I have never seen a sawtooth not that sure but the sportman and scramblers i have seen have been great. They do ride a little differntly than most suspension seems a little stiffer.
  6. Finally made a decision on what to do with the 4514, pulling the engine didnt appeal to me to replace the coil, i only needed about 1 more inch of clearance to get it out, neither did pulling the steering column and console and many, many other things to get that off. So i decided to cut the battery tray in half or either cut the welds, havent decided yet, which ever works best, that will give me enough clearance. Thats crazy that its welded in there , the one on the 3813 was bolted in. This one will be when i finish.
  7. Well finally getting back around to the TRX 250. I found a gear set on ebay . Gears look good hopefully this will solve my problem. Soon as they arrive i will get them installed and smoke test it.
  8. I agree totally, the foot shift is more robust, but if you want something just to ease throught the woods with no challenging obstacles and no shifting automatic works OK for that. It works great for unexpierienced riders just give it gas and go nothing else to think about. I myself prefer manual shift but its probably because thats what im used too. A lot depends on what is for sale and at what price point. I would get an automatic if the price was right. I was in negotiations for a Kodiak was kind of looking forward to getting an automatic but another came up with manual and i liked it better so went with that.
  9. I agree with what others have told you. I also wouldnt want to start with an engine that someone else had modified and never got running. Yamahas are great bikes, the engines are very strong and long lasting. The Warrior is more of a sporrt model very fast and, the Big Bear is a very strong utility Quad it has lower gearing and more pulling power, full time 4 wheel drive and foot shift only. The Kodiak is also a great bike it is like the automatic version of the Big Bear not quite as low geared but very good it has a 2 wheel drive 4 wheel drive button and belt drive also water cooled.. There is also the Wolverine a smaller version light for ATV very capable and fun to ride. Then there the Grizzly . The only negative thing i might say about the manual shift version is as they age the shift linkage get kind of worn and do not shift as smoothly and is usually caused by worn shift linkages.
  10. It sounds like it tried to start a couple of times so it should be firing you could check the timing and make sure its getting enough fuel.
  11. I didnt even catch that i had to look hard to see what you were talking about.
  12. I agree completely 86cc there is some level of pride that goes with taking one from complete neglect and changing it into something useful that you dont get from driving one off the showroom floor. A lot of work involved but the learning expierience you get cannot be received any other way. Good luck with it and im behind you all the way. Keep us informed so we can help.
  13. You could check the exhaust, wrap a rag around the inlet and blow some air in there and see if it flows smoothly.
  14. Looks good!
  15. Well i said dont spend any money , but i guess you need some wheels to roll it around.
  16. It does sound bad. You have to ignore all that stuff for now, dont spend money on anything except getting the engine running to make sure that is good and that it shifts., before you proceed. Cleaning the tank is fairly simple they are plastic depending on what comes out of it you might be able to just clean it out with soap or simple green if it real tarring looking use something like carb cleaner and wash it out with pressure washer.
  17. Sounds like you need more luck than i do. Climbing a rope and holding on while yielding a chain saw. A man of many talents. Just get a new rope and be careful.
  18. I agree 150 PSI is plenty to run on i was just basing my opinion on the smoking and what i saw in the video, never seen a carb or vent problems cause that much power loss so quickly. I have seen it from a plugged exhaust. Could be wrong but it is definately loosing power.
  19. The service manual has very few tests to do before they say replace the coil in fact they call it the coil pack so there is a lot more going on there than just a coil that works like most coils i have worked on. I just need to quit talking about it and get out there get it out and replace it, im trying to determine if its easier to pull the engine or the steering wheel and console to get it out, probably about the same amount of work just harder on your back pulling that engine. I appreciate your help and support Mech!
  20. Agreed, i have always thought the OEM size was well thought out during the production of the machine to the size that comes on it, and shouldnt be changed.
  21. Exhaust smells in cab is not good can be dangerous. To get that you have aa leak somewhere if not at the pipes maybe look at the manifold on the engine thats closer to the cab but you should notice a different sound if that is bad.
  22. Im sure the service manual is right they only made one model 4514 they had other models 4518 3813 etc. The coil is so specific thats why i cant find one. But you are right it doent make sense to me unless it gererates its own power and that part is broken. Maybe i will understand it better once i get it out so i can take a look.
  23. I am thinking top end rings valves reworked. Unless you heard knocking noises and it shifts good i wouldnt suspect a bottom end problem. As far as the vent hose being off i would drain the oil put in new run it a little bit then change it again. If the oil looks milky do it again.
