  1. Is it possible, to put a new chain on using the procedure you spoke of? According to the service manual it says it takes a special tool to adjust the tensioner.
  2. I got it off and, the chain came off on the bottom gear. Is it possible to put the chain back on and maybe, use the adjuster and tighten it? I thought maybe if I lined up the bottom gear to TDC, I could then line up the cam gear marks where they go with the chain still on the bottom gear or, is that possible?
  3. I thought about using a block of 2x4 and a hammer tapping around the head. I'm not quite sure how to test for leaking valves compression check maybe? or will that just test 2 of them?
  4. Ok Thanks, I'll get out there in the morning and see if I can get it off and see what I've got. Yeah, that's probably my luck lol!
  5. I pulled the two small covers to expose the valves and I could see they weren't moving while cranking the engine. I removed all the bolts from the head. It seems like the gasket has a good grip on it. Then, it started to rain so I had to quit and put a tarp over it. Not quite sure where the cam cover is?
  6. Do you have to pull the clutch and oil pump?
  7. Yeah, I got all the bolts out just stubborn gasket holding it on now. It is cloudy and dark here and I could see good fire from the plug shooting down in there. Is that a pretty big job to replace the chain?
  8. 2000 honda trx300ex. It's been sounding like it's been cranking too fast and not hitting at all. I took the 2 valve adjustment caps off and while cranking, the valves don't move at all. Getting good spark and fuel. Surely, there should be movement with the valves opening and closing. Am I correct on this assumption? Thanks folks!
  9. Another thing, when I turn the flywheel by hand that also turns.
  10. I did that gently and it did move a little. I sent the photo to my grandson and he thought maybe it was the cam. I've got a starter clutch one way bearing coming next week. I'm hoping that will let the engine turn over and start. That starter sounds like the ones in the old cars when the bendix went out.
  11. I'm beginning to think there is no telling what I bought. I tore it down to the flywheel and, I've found something that's making me wonder if I just through a bunch of money away. 😟 Here is the photo that has me worried if you look to the left of the gear and flywheel, you'll see a hole with what looks like something that's not, lined up with the hole inside the engine.
  12. I'm going to make my grandson do the pushing lol!
  13. It has a handlebar clutch lever is that what you are referring to? no kick start that I can see. After I put the new carb on it started but, cranked slowly like it had a load on it. I pushed it over by my car after it died and wouldn't start and that's when I noticed the effortless fast cranking. I figured the one way bearing quit catching in either direction but, I'm really not sure how they work.
  14. Thought I'd ask before pushing it because this old body doesn't have much push left in it. lol!
  15. If it's a bad one way bearing, can it be push started? I checked for spark and it's good now. If the one way bearing couldn't cause this problem, I guess I'll have to check for compression. I'll have to get a wrench of some kind for the spark plug any suggestions?
  16. I'm beginning to wonder if the starter is even turning over the engine.
  17. Doesn't sound like there is much of a load on the starter.
  18. Good morning folks, I ran bypass wire for ground to CDI box. Well, I'm getting spark now but still no start. The engine for some reason seems to crank a lot faster than before it seemed like it struggled before like it had a lot more to turn over. any ideas what could be going on now? Thanks! 😒
  19. I think I see what your saying, the connection may be good enough for the voltage check but, it doesn't place much of a load on it especially on my Fluke meter
  20. I know there is a jumper from negative battery to frame but, not sure if there is one going to the engine.
  21. The fuse and both switches I believe, are all good. when I checked from the positive wire connector at the CDI, I got 12v. to battery negative. You may be right, I haven't checked to the frame or engine yet.
