  1. Hello fellas, I'll do a little searching also, and see what I can come up with.
  2. I've been using Valvolene 10w 40 ATV oil but, it's like $8.00 a quart. Is that about the going rate? Or is there cheaper alternatives that would be suitable? Thanks
  3. Yeah, that's what I'm going to do. I've got to find out what's up with my rear brakes now. I must have a leak somewhere the rear master cylinder level is really low with no resistance at all to the pedal. I wired the pedal down when removing crank case cover and forgot to release it. I guess being under pressure, the fluid found a weak point to exit. Seems like one thing after the other lol!
  4. Well, I'd say one set of keepers is welded in on mine LOL! I guess if I ever decide to replace the seals and have to remove the head, I might as well do the whole top end.
  5. I've heard of using an air hose in the spark plug holes to hold the valves from dropping while replacing the seals on a car/truck but, I've never tried it myself.
  6. I think, all I took of was the top cover to change the timing chain or, do they make a spring compressor for ATVs where you don't have to pull the head to the back side of the valves also? Please, correct me if I'm wrong working on atvs is a new adventure for me.
  7. Yeah, I know what you mean lol! It bugs me too. I imagine, who ever put that tack weld on top of one of the valve stems didn't help the situation any.
  8. My trx300ex appears, to put out some bluish oil smoke for about 30 seconds when first started in the mornings. Would this most likely be due to worn valve stem seals? After the first start of the day, it doesn't smoke. Thanks
  9. Is this what you were refering to? Honda 16010-HM3-A61 - GASKET SET : Babbitts Honda Parts House
  10. I've been looking online for the carb kit but, so far no luck.
  11. I'd like to purchase a rebuild kit for the OEM carb that came on my 2000 honda trx300ex. Do I need to use the letters/numbers on the carb to search online for a kit or, are there other methods? Thanks!
  12. When I got it barely ran the guy said it probably had some junk in the carb. I figured I could clean that out and it would be fine. But, I think it was having trouble starting and staying because It was probably about ready for the chain to jump off then. I've got maybe 2 minutes of actual riding time on it.
  13. Yeah, I got screwed when I bought this piece of sh**, $1000.00 down the drain. All I wanted one for was to go through the woods by the house to hunt and fish. I figured surely it should be good enough for that. But so far it's proved me wrong. That fat bastard I bought it from should be glad there's laws!
  14. I think, on the carb it's got the QB02A. I'll have to check to be sure though. If I have trouble with the one that's on it I may check and see what a re-build kit would cost.
  15. This is a photo of a plastic cover. Any idea what is on top of this valve?
  16. Well, I said it had OEM on it but, I don't know that for a fact yet. Should there be numbers or something on it to verify that it's an OEM product?
  17. If it will last a year or two it might out last me lol! I'm finding out there's a lot to learn on my first ATV.
  18. For what I paid, I'm sure it's a Chinese made but, I just can't afford an OEM replacement. I've got the special adjusting tool and a tach I'll see how it goes. I guess I could rebuild the OEM if need be. Thanks!
  19. Do most of you reset this initial adjustment according to starting spec when you replace the factory OEM carb? Mine says 2 1/4 turn out so that's how I set it for now.
  20. Well, it all sounds good but I wouldn't know where to begin to get it any better.
  21. I followed the directions in the service manual. The cam has a line on the left and right side which are supposed to line up with the top of the head. With the T mark on the flywheel lined up with the indicator in the timing hole, both cam lines are within an eighth of an inch of being perfect with the head so I believe, the timing should be right. My grandson is supposed to come by tomorrow after work and check it since he has much better eyes.
  22. I used my calipers and measured the socket it's 10mm. I've got the chain on pretty sure the cam is timed correctly. The last timing chain I put on was many years ago on my old 69 Dodge Dart Swinger lol! If I'm not mistaken, if it is off it has to be a tooth one direction or the other sound right? I won't get the nut I need till between Wednesday and Friday. I'll probably get my grandson to come out and double check the timing. He works with a lot of old cars and trucks restoring them. His eyes are better than mine so I think I'd better play it safe.
