  1. Anyone know what size Allen wrench it takes to remove the large timing plug in the left side crankcase cover? I got the top smaller plug out. Thanks! The Honda trx300ex
  2. I'll post when I get it done if, the nut will go on lol! I drug my fingernail across the threads on the shaft and there seems to still be threads all the way. The nut though, is practically smooth on the inside I'm assuming it is a little softer material then the crankshaft hopefully,
  3. I think I will try the guides like they are since the most important one looks pretty good. I thought about taking the tension adjuster out before, putting the chain on. I guess I should adjust it all the way down before I go to put it back in though.
  4. I found these little slivers on metal down at the bottom where the little screen was at. The timing chain to my eyes, looks to have a lot of wear on the inside where it wraps around the sprockets. The chain I ordered is suppose to be here tomorrow and the nut is suppose to be here by the weekend. Thanks a lot for the help folks.
  5. I got the guide off that the tensioner pushes against. After looking it over, it looks like it is all there. The one on the right side is pushed in a tight slot at the bottom. It's really tight I don't know what is holding the top of it. I think that's the piece that is broken so I've got to figure out how that comes out.
  6. I think I'll go out and see if I can remove the bolt and pull it out.
  7. I hope, I'll be able to get the nut to thread on. I'm thinking since the nut is so smooth on the inside that a lot of what I'm seeing on the shaft is fill in from the nut threads. I guess I should look for a black plastic tensioner piece at least, since I'm pretty sure that's what broke. It's the one that's bolted in I wonder, if I took the bolt out if I could pull it out and get a better look at it? Thanks
  8. Oh boy, another brain fart for me! If I don't get my head straight, I'll never get this thing running. 😞 Thanks!
  9. Too late, I already bought it lol! I'll check the place you recommended because I guess I should get the chain guide and the plastic tensioner which, I think is what the broken pieces of black plastic are from.
  10. Found same thing for less than half the price so, I jumped on it. I guess if it won't thread on after cleaning up the threads, at least I'll have the nut for someone to go by to re -thread the primary gear shaft. USED OEM 87-08 HONDA TRX 250X 300EX 300X CRANK OIL PUMP & PRIMARY GEAR W NUT | eBay
  11. I think this will be the nut I need but gosh, that's a lot to have to spend just for the nut but, if I knew for sure I could thread it back on I wouldn't think twice about buying it. 1996 Honda TRX300EX TRX 300EX crank shaft primary / oil pump drive gears & nut | eBay
  12. Is 20mm the size of the threaded section or, the size of the bolt head?
  13. this here, tells about the thread. I don't know if that's the pitch or just the spacing of the threads. It's the primary drive gear lock nut.
  14. I'll try and find a thread file and give it a try. Thanks
  15. The nut that came off doesn't hardly have any threads left I wondered if trying a new nut on there would straighten things up. If I can figure out what nut I need, I'll order a couple and give it a try. If I can find my wire brush I can clean the threads a little better where I can see them better. This Diabetes and Glaucoma has really done a number on my eyes.
  16. I've got a set of calipers I use for reloading ammo if that would work. No tap and die set but, could probably get one. I wonder what a machine shop would charge if I get a new lock nut for them to go by? first, I have to find another nut.
  17. Anyone know what size nut/thread type besides being being left hand threads?
  18. Things were going pretty good untill I screwed up. The main drive gear shaft had left hand threads but, I had to try taking it off with my impact the wrong direction. I know, the nut is ruined I don't know for sure about the drive shaft threads but, I probably, ruined it too. 😞 There are some plastic pieces also. I'll post a couple photos. Photo of shaft threads may be ruined, and photo of some of the black plastic pieces.
  19. A youtube video, showed a guy who had 2 atvs just like mine that had the chain off the bottom gear. He was replacing the chain on one and pointed at the other one and said it had the same problem. He never said if he had anything broken but, it must be a common problem for these particular atvs.
  20. I hope, the balancer shaft looking out of alignment isn't what caused the chain to jump off. I didn't hear any obvious noises or anything when it jumped.
  21. I can't really see down in there to be able to tell if the tensioner/ guides etc. ane good at this point. Hopefully I'll be able to tell more when I get the cover off. All I ordered was the chain hopefully that's all I'll need otherwise, I'll have to order again and wait instead of putting it back together. I'm going to start on it in the morning and should have it ready for the new chain when it arrives on Monday I hope lol!
  22. Yeah, I've been looking at the service manual and it shows how to take the right side cover off. I think I will have to take the oil pump off for sure not sure about the clutch pack but, it shows how to take it off also.
  23. If I take the head off, would I also have to take the right side crank case cover off?
