Is it ok to leave it unplugged and still use the bike?

Does the light go off when you unplug it? The point of that is to not start it in gear, as it can be safety issue if you do start it in gear. I don't think it has an effect on drivability but because its a safety/neutral switch, I can't in good sense tell you its ok to leave it unplugged and use the atv. As an owner, its up to you what you do.

Are there any mechanics out there who have experience replacing a voltage regulator/rectifier with one that is not stock.  Manufacturer doesn't make the part anymore for my 1987 Suzuki LT80 Quadsport.  I can't find a used one either.  Dealer said I might be able to use a similar one, but wires would have to be spliced.  I'm not sure if that would work or harm the electrical system.  Any feedback would be appreciated.

Is this a 1987 or 1997? I know they made the LT80 quadsport in 1997 but not sure about 1987. Topic moved to Suzuki ATV forum.

I plan on using my plow this winter should I leave the trickle charger plugged in 24/7 will that hurt my battery

Should be fine as long as the trickle charger has a fully charged stop feature, so you don't overcharge the battery. The chargers in the first post are all designed to be plugged in and to "maintain" your battery.

  4. I don't know for sure but I typically look at the aftermarket sites that sell OEM and do the lookups and see if the part numbers are the same. If not, then no. I try to go with the exact part numbers. Is it possible they are the same parts? probably.

  5. I would pull the tank and make sure its clean. I would then replace the fuel petcock and carburetor. Then go from there.

You can get a carb for $30-60 on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=suzuki+quadrunner+250+carburetor&i=automotive&ref=nb_sb_noss_1

You can get a fuel petcock for $30-40 on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=suzuki+quadrunner+250+fuel+petcock&crid=RUICDM3OK9K&sprefix=suzuki+quadrunner+250+fuel%2Cautomotive%2C167&ref=nb_sb_ss_fb_1_26_ts-doa-p

The main thing is to make sure he didn't drop any screws into the carb, down the intake and into the engine.

I would also replace that starter. which you can get on Amazon for $35-50: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=suzuki+quadrunner+250+starter&ref=nb_sb_noss_2

The entire repair could cost you $100-150 in parts.

Quick update on the shifter problem. After adjusting the forward/reverse linkage yesterday it hasn't tried jumping into reverse at all. I worked it pretty hard in the woods all day today, hauling small cedar logs and cart loads of brush up and down these Missouri hills without a hitch so starting to think the problem was all in a simple linkage adjustment. Will post back if anything changes.

That's awesome, way to go on fixing and thanks for sharing.

  7. Not a dumb question at all, you would think to screw it in, so you get all the oil level and don't overfill, but the right way is to unscrew, clean and dip to check. On Yamaha according to the manual, you do not screw the dipstick in to check the oil. See below:

I can't download yet (10 posts?) but thank you for what will be a great link.

Hating to push my luck, but do you have an owner's/operator's manual for it too? :)

10 posts should unlock that for you. Its by design so people participate as members here and don't just download and leave. There is a membership option for those that prefer immediate access without posting https://www.quadcrazy.com/subscriptions

Unfortunately I could not find the owners manual.
